Masters Update

Well the season really is now underway, with the 1st major of the year, The Masters getting everyone in the mood for playing golf. Bubba Watson won his second green jacket in 3 years with a 2 shot victory over 20 year old Jordan Speith. Bubba was highly impressive around the 7435 yard course, making it look like a pitch and putt at times, with the highlight seeing him reduce the Par 5 13th to a Driver and wedge. When you hit it that far and that straight from the tee, you can see him adding more green jackets to his locker over the next few years. My Press & Journal Pro's Pick of the week, Matt Kuchar faded away in the final round only to finish tied 5th.....hope nobody put to much money on him!!

Spring Meeting

Last Saturday while the first major of the year, the Masters was taking place, we had our own AU"GUSTA" going on at Moray GC. The Spring Meeting had some very high winds making scoring very difficult on the links. As the winds continued to increase as the day went on, the decision was made to cancel the event with the latter players finding the balls moving on the greens, and sand blowing across the course making it difficult for some to see where they were going.

This Saturday will see the Spring Meeting replayed as a result. The Monthly Medal scheduled for this weekend will now be pushed back to next weekend, and the Silver jubilee Cup will be pushed back to a date to be agreed by the council at their next meeting. Please note that your times for last weekend won't carry over.

Anyone who paid their monies last weekend can either use them for payment this weekend, or collect their money from the Pro Shop.

This week we had our TaylorMade Fitting Day at Elgin Driving Range. We had a great response on the day with all our fitting appointments full on the day. Thanks to everyone who came along. Your support on these days are vital to ensure we continue to get such dates in the future.

We saw a good number of players 'lofting up' with the TaylorMade SLDR Driver including 2 players being fitted for 12 degree drivers, and 2 players fitted for 14 degree drivers!! 1 player changed his loft from 9 degrees to 14 degrees (5 degree increase!!) and gained around 25 yards carry in the process.

I am looking at putting on some Group Coaching Clinics each month where members of Moray GC can sign up for a fraction of the cost of a normal lesson. I am planning to schedule one session per month initially to see what interest there is with this format.

The sessions will run for 1 hour, and will focus on specific areas of the game each session. In order to make these sessions viable I would need a min of 3 golfer per session. We would also limit the sessions to a maximum of 6 players.

The cost will be £10 per group session payable on booking to reserve your slot. Rule of the Week

Playing the 7th Old, Mark and Mike have driven into the same area. When they reached their drives they found that both balls were relatively close to each other. Mark's ball was further from the hole and, because Mike's ball was interfering with his swing, asked him to mark his ball. They noticed that it had a piece of mud adhering to the face and Mark reminded Mike that his ball cannot be cleaned. When he came to replace it, Mike asked if he could turn the ball so that the mud would not interfere between clubface and ball. Was this permissible?

Yes. Provided the ball is replaced on the spot from which it was lifted. However, if the player rotated the ball in such a way so as to "tee " it on the mud, he would be in breach of Rule 20-3a.
