Hello golfers,
I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another exciting edition of the Moray Pro Shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up to date with all the latest news and gossip from within the walls of MGC.
The season is now underway, and we are seeing more and more familiar faces popping through the door as they come out of winter hibernation. After a busy week with the Scottish Universities Championships, we had both the Greensomes on Saturday followed by our first Open Texas Scramble of the year on Sunday.
It's also the first major of the year, The Masters and I can't wait to watch the action as it's always an exciting event, and one which never fails to create excitement and drama.....just like an episode of Eastenders.
The Par 3 event had 9 holes in 1, with 2 of them back to back shots from the same pairing and one from the legend Gary Player. The eventual winner Jimmy Walker also set a tournament record of -8 for the 9 holes which also included an ace. If the main event is anything like this, then we are all in for a treat....Enjoy.
Personally, I can't really see past the big four...Jason Day, Rory, Spieth or Bubba when it comes to Augusta, but a lot can happen in 4 days at the Masters..
Back at the Club, this weekend sees the first strokeplay event with the men's Spring Meeting taking place on the Old Course and a very busy tee sheet.. Could members please call the shop if they cannot make their tee time for any reason to allow us to give other members an opportunity to get a game. We will be keeping a close eye on any no shows in the Saturday competitions during the season, so please let us know if you can't make your time.
We have had another busy week with our Junior Camp taking place on easily the worst 3 days weather we have had this year..
Derek and I had 16 Under 10's and 12 Over 10's take part in some fun filled golf events over the 3 days, and I'm pleased to say we somehow managed to get through it with help from multiple hot chocolates on Monday from the clubhouse, and a Gazebo on the practice area kindly put up by our very own Club Captain John Thomson.
Despite the weather, the kids all seemed to have fun (Derek and I), although I'm not sure about the rest of them...Haha..
A big thanks also needs to go out to Monica Grant who continually gives up her time to help out with not only Club Golf Coaching, but helping us out over the 3 days coaching camps.....Thanks Monica..
Day 1 on the Putting Green
Days 2 & 3 - Junior Camp
Junior Medal 1 Well Done to
Euan Docherty on winning the 1st Junior medal of the year with a fine nett 65, beating
Alan Currie into 2nd place on 67. while
Regan Main was 3rd back on 70. A good start to the season with some early handicap cuts..
Master Euan Docherty - 85 - 20c = 65
Alan Currie - 87 - 20c = 67
Raegan J Main - 91 - 21c = 70
Brogan Thomson - 91 - 15c = 76
Jack Ure - 101 - 23c = 78
Euan has started the season well as he also finished in 2nd place in the Spence Trophy which was played at Fortrose & Rosemarkie on the 1st April. Euan hit scores of 93/73 and 95/75 in some very windy conditions. Well Done Euan and thanks to
Alan Cowie and
Graham Broad for taking everyone through and supporting the whole team that travelled.
Mid-Week Medals The midweek medals also start next week. We have quite a few new members this season and many who don't yet know other members to play alongside in these walk on medals. I will be booking a couple slots during each one booked under Mid Week Medal for members who require a playing partner.
Contact us in the shop if you need a playing partner and we will do our best to find you one.
On the same note if any members are happy to play alongside new members in these competitions, then we would be happy to hear from you too.

Bobby was taking relief from a sprinkler head on the 13th Old. He drops his ball and it rolls more than 2 club lengths. He re-drops his ball with the same result. Before he places his ball on the spot where his ball first struck the part of the course when re-dropped can he remove loose impediments on or around the spot which his ball is to be placed?
Answer - Yes
