I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course, and welcome to another exciting edition of the Moray Pro Shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up to date with all the latest news and gossip from within the walls of MGC.

Pros news

It's been another busy week at Moray GC. We have been busy trying to tidy up the shop to create some space for all the boxes that seem to keep appearing!! We now have some new Oscar Jacobson clothing in to add to our initial drop, and are waiting for some warmer weather to allow us to entice you with some short sleeve polos for the beautiful summer ahead. (I can but hope!)

This week I'm busy teaching most of the week, and am running the Sport Moray Primary Schools competition on Wednesday afternoon on the practice area. I usually have between 20-30 children for this event, and we put on a 4 hole competition on the junior course, a putting competition, chipping competition and finally a longest, straightest drive. If anyone is thinking about putting in some hard practice then I would try to avoid the practice area between 3.30-5.30pm on Wednesday.

Alternatively if anyone would like to lend a pair of hands to help take the kids round these 4 events, and help them mark their cards then I can always do with some help.

Junior golf

Ellie Plays in the Scottish Girls Open Championships

One of our promising juniors, Ellie Docherty has taken to the road in recent weeks to play in the Irish U18's and Scottish Girls Open Championships for the first time. Ellie has had a great couple of seasons and has started the season playing of a handicap of 7.

Unfortunately Ellie missed the cut in both, but really enjoyed the experience. I have seen her out practicing hard in some poor weather which is great to see, and I know she is looking forward to her next big events which are the County Championships at Brora at the start of May, and then the Munross Trophy at Montrose the end of May....Good Luck Ellie!

Saturday Medal Results

Well Done to Kyle Thomson who won the Medal on Saturday with a fine 96 (65), 2 shots ahead of Harvey Kane (67) with Jack Ure 3rd on 70.

Kyle Thomson - 96 - 31c = 65
Harvey Kane - 91 - 24c = 67
Jack Ure - 93 - 23c = 70

Club events

We had a great night last Friday night with the LadyBird Quiz night hosted by Bruce Casburn. I think there were well over 60 people who attended the evening in support of the Ladybird Group.

They managed to raise almost £600 on the night which was fantastic.

Julieann, Derek and I achieved our goal of not finishing last, and I'm pleased to say we managed this by a whopping 2 points.

I am donating a 4 Ball at Trump International in Aberdeen which has to be used by the end of June with all proceeds going to the Ladybird Group.

Therefore I'm looking for offers for the 4 ball with the highest bid made between now and next Monday will win the 4 ball which is worth over £600,and know that they have donated to a great local cause at the same time.

Rule of the week

Playing the 8th Old, Graham's ball ended up in the rough to the right of the green beside the landing light. In obtaining relief he correctly identified his nearest point of relief which was still in the rough. Considering his options of where to take his club length from this point, he managed to get his ball to come to rest on the fairway but no more than two club lengths from where it struck the ground. "Lucky break"! he said. Did Alister agree?

Yes.

There is no distinction in the rules between fairway and rough: both are covered by the term 'through the green'
