I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another exciting edition of the Moray Pro Shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up to date with all the latest news and gossip from within the walls of MGC.
We had some mixed weather last week with the sun shining on quite a few occasions during the week. However the Northerly winds have kept things rather chilly at times and made the course very tricky.
This week Derek is away to sit his 2nd year exams down at the St Andrews Old Course Hotel. Derek is busy studying as we speak and will have exams on rules of golf, business studies, equipment technology, sports science and golf coaching. I'm sure you will all join me in wishing Derek all the best for these exams.
LadyBird Group
I am pleased to say that we had a maximum bid of £500 for the 4 ball at Trump International Links which was a fantastic figure.
Thanks to everyone who made an offer for the 4 ball and I'm delighted that we can give the Ladybird this money to help with their ongoing fundraising.
Derek has been running a few girls coaching taster sessions on Sunday afternoons over the last 3 weeks. These have been very well received and last Sunday we had 15 girls in total during the session. A big thank you must also go out to Kay Vincent, Frances Neish and Monica Grant for their help over the last few weeks.
Due to the success of these initial sessions, Derek is going to arrange some more sessions with 2 different age groups. The older group will be focusing on getting the girls on to the New Course, and eventually getting their handicaps, while the younger girls will be doing more basic coaching and introducing them to golf on the junior 4 hole course.
There will be a 2 week break from the coaching and Derek will be in contact with you all to arrange new dates and times for the new sessions.
If you or any of your family are looking to get into golf, or improve on your current skills, click here to get in touch, or come and have a chat with us in the pro shop.
YMG Junior Coaching at Moray GC
Derek will also be running some junior coaching sessions after school starting on Thursday, 12 May from 5pm.
These sessions will run for 8 weeks at a cost of £50 per child which will include a personalised folder for each child to take away with them and allow the parents and children to review the lessons.
It's looking like we will be running 2-3 different sessions to cater for the different ages and skill levels within those interested.
Spaces are filling up fast so if you want to book up your child, contact the shop and sign up before the 5th May to give us enough time to get your folders ordered.

Playing the 18th Old, Derek's 2nd shot ended up on the 1st tee with the Pro Shop between his ball and the 18th flag. The shop building doesn't interfere with his swing or stance but is interfering with his intended line of play. Is Derek entitled to relief from the shop building?
Under Rule 24-2 Immovable
Obstruction Interference by an immovable obstruction occurs when a ball lies in or on the obstruction , or when the obstruction interferes with the player's stance or the area of his intended swing. If the player's ball lies on the putting green , interference also occurs if an immovable obstruction on the putting green intervenes on his line of putt. Otherwise, intervention on the line of play is not, of itself, interference under this rule
Answer - Derek should play the ball as it lies and is not entitled to relief
