I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another exciting edition of the Moray Pro Shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up to date with all the latest news and gossip from within the walls of MGC.
It's been a rather busy week again despite some very changeable weather making golfing very tricky. As well as the usual Ladies events on Monday and Wednesday, Seniors on Tuesday and Mid Week on Thursday, we had the first Monthly Medal of the season on Saturday, followed by a walk on medal on Sunday and then a Seniors Open on Monday.. I'm exhausted just taking about it.. A full round up is later in the newsletter.
Derek has returned from his exams last week in a positive mood, and glad he can now focus on playing golf rather than studying for the rest of the summer. Derek will find out his results in July, although I'm very confident he will do just fine.
Derek will be starting his after schools YMG (Young Masters Golf) coaching next Thursday, 12 May. He has around 20 already signed up for this which is great, and as a result has split them into 3 groups. Anyone wishing to sign up should do so ASAP to avoid disappointment.

We have had quite a few new faces joining the club this season which is great to see. However there are a few who don't know many members as of yet, and so struggle to find playing partners for the Thursday Walk On Medals. As a result the shop will be booking some slots under "MID WEEK MEDAL" that any member can add their name into if they are looking for someone to play alongside. We will be booking 2 morning slots back to back, and 2 afternoon/evening slots. If you don't mind new members joining you for a game, then please let us know in the shop so we can help integrate these new faces into the club and make them feel welcome.
Capro Cup Qualification
Last weekend was the first event to qualify for the end of season Ryder Cup style event....The CAPRO CUP which will be played over the 1st & 2nd October.. Anyone not entered so far can still do so throughout the season by paying £5 in the shop and joining the Order of merit.
We initially had 4 handicap sections planned, but with very few players signed up from the 15-28 section I have decided to combine the last 2 categories together (Hcaps 10-28).
There will be 10 points awarded in each event, but we will have 8 qualifiers from this section at the end of the year.

The 2nd Qualifying event is the May Monthly Medal this Saturday.......there is plenty to play for and I can guarantee you it will be a great fun event so if you're not already in the qualifying race then be sure to sign up this weekend.

Gary was searching for his ball in deep grass to the left of the 17th Old just short of the green. He found a ball, and playing his Sand Wedge for the stroke missed the ball. When he bent down to examine the ball he realised that it was not his. Gary looked over to Derek and said "that was a lucky break I missed the ball so no penalty for playing a wrong ball". Did Derek agree to his reasoning?
Answer
The definition of a stroke is the forward movement of the club made with the Intention of striking at and moving the ball. As Gary's intention was to strike at and move the ball he had made a stroke. The fact that he missed the ball does not absolve him from the penalty.
Should a player check his downswing voluntarily before he reaches the ball, he has not made a stroke.
