Hello golfers,
I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another exciting edition of the Moray Pro Shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up to date with all the latest news and gossip from within the walls of MGC.
We had some milder weather over the weekend and for the Boyd Anderson Open on Saturday. We had a good turnout with only a handful of spaces left after a few late calls offs. A total of 143 players took part over both courses, and it was great to hear such positive comments on the condition of the course.
Moray members Corin Stewart, Darren Gould and Kevin Thomson were the top Moray performers in the scratch section in joint 5th place.
In handicap section 1, Ryan Copland was top Moray performer in 4th place on 145 with Aaron Casey, Iain Meggatt, Phillip McPherson and Mark Quilter one back on 146.
In division 2, Michael Jamieson took top spoils and won the Campbell & McConnachie Trophy with a great 2nd round 64 to win the division by 2 shots.

Golf is not a Game of Perfect...I see a lot of people who hit the ball great on the practice area but can't repeat their form on the golf course.....does that sound like you?
A lot of golfers make the mistake of practicing in the perfect. What are you talking about John I hear you say...
How often do you practice at the range from a poor lie, the ball above your feet or even out of a divot? Probably not very often.
Most people practice from flat, perfect lies and so it's no wonder they hit it better on the range. Next time you practice, try to hit some shots from a variety of lies and stances, try to hit the ball low and high, or shape it left and right (ok maybe a little advanced for some).
The more you practice these imperfect lies and scenarios, the better you will be able to deal with it on the golf course.
Another mistake I see many of you making, is practicing in a way which doesn't resemble how you play golf on the course.......sounds insane doesn't it! Does it sound familiar?
Whether on the range, pitching area or the putting green, try not to stand in the same position, repeatedly hitting the same shot from the same position to the same target. If you do it's no wonder you're better on the range. How many times do you sink a putt at your second attempt? It always seems to happen doesn't it. You learn from mistakes and improve, so by the time you're on your 2nd, 3rd or 4th attempt, they are all landing next to the hole.
Unfortunately golf isn't played this way.......you get one shot and if you make a mess of it then it's a case of tough luck.
So next time you're practicing, think about how you can practice more like you play. If this sounds like your game,
click here to book a lesson and let me show you how to make your practice help your golf on the course.
The other problem which often leads us down a path to destruction is how high most of our expectations are on the golf course. Does this sound familiar?
I recently read a great article on this very topic
...."How your expectations are killing your Golf Game". Click here to give it a read and maybe you will be a little more relaxed when you next miss that 8 foot putt on the course or miss a fairway.
David's approach to the 16th green (New) ran through to the back into the blue lined GUR. He picked up his ball and went to the nearest drop zone. Standing outside the DZ he dropped his ball within the circled area of the DZ but it rolled out -with and went nearer to the green. Going forward to retrieve his ball David turned to Michael asked if he was proceeding correctly? What was Michael's explanation?
AnswerMichael stated that when dropping a ball in a drop zone David is permitted to stand out with the DZ but his ball must first strike the ground within the DZ. His ball can roll nearer to the hole but must come to rest no more than 2 club lengths from where it first struck the ground in the DZ before it has to be redropped.
