Greetings from your Friendly Pro Shop Team,

I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another exciting edition of the Moray Pro Shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up to date with all the latest news and gossip from within the walls of MGC.

It was a huge weekend for British Sport with the Wimbledon Tennis Finals, Scottish Open, British Grand Prix and the Euro Championships Final all taking place.

It was great to see Andy Murray seal his 2nd Wimbledon trophy and his first grand slam win since 2013 with a great 3 set final win over the big serving Canadian, Milos Raonic. Elsewhere GB's Heather Watson claimed the mixed doubles crown and Lewis Hamilton sealed his 3rd British Grand Prix win in as many years.

Just along the road at the Scottish Open it was Swedens Alex Noren who managed to put up with some typical Scottish Summer wind and rain over the week to seal victory at -14. Despite the poor weather, the golfing gods allowed some respite from the rain to finish the event with some sunshine and allow the prize-giving to take place outside.

Scotlands Ritchie Ramsay was leading Scot with a final round charge on route to a 67 for a -11 total to also claim the last of the Open Qualifying spots for this week's Open Championship at Troon.

It was also great to see a couple of players from last week's Scottish Open Qualifier at Moray GC make the cut and pick up a payday cheque at the end of the week. Jack Doherty who won the event at Moray finished at -2 for the week picking up 18,167 Euros while Gareth Wright managed to finish at +1 and pick up 10,823 Euros in the process. Not anywhere near the 644,196 Euros that Noren picked up for his win but im sure a huge boost to their season's earnings.

It's going to be a busy few weeks now with the Open Championship at Troon this week.

Rule of the week

Fraser's Bag Of Tips

During a friendly game with Fraser, Graeme announced that he would be entering the Moray Open for the first time and would welcome any advice that Fraser could give him.

What were his helpful tips?

1. Before your round, always count your clubs to make sure you are not carrying more than 14. It's a costly penalty of 2 strokes per hole with max of 4 penalty strokes in the round if you mistakenly carry more than 14.

2. If you are concerned that your ball may be lost or difficult to find, to save time you may play another ball 'provisionally'. You must announce your intention to your fellow competitor. It is always good practice to either play a different named ball or a different numbered ball and make sure your identification mark is on it.

3. Playing a wrong ball is a costly 2 stroke penalty. If in doubt a player may lift or rotate his ball to identify it having first marked it and announced his intention to his fellow competitor to give him the opportunity to observe the lifting and replacing of the ball.

4. Should you be in doubt as how to proceed and there is no help available then under Rule 3-3 you can play a second ball and complete the hole with the score for each ball. You must inform the Committee as soon as you return of your invoking of Rule 3-3

5. Your Position on the course is behind the game ahead not in front of the game behind ie. keep up with the game ahead

6. And Finally make certain that you and your marker have both signed your card. The ultimate of all penalties D.Q !

Now armed with all these tips you go and have an enjoyable and successful Moray Open Week.
