I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another exciting edition of the Moray Pro Shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up to date with all the latest news and gossip from within the walls of MGC.
The countdown is on....
It's now only 2 weeks until the Ryder Cup takes place at Hazeltine, USA. Europe's team has already been decided with 6 Rookies making the team. This week USA announced 3 of their 4 wild card picks, opting for experience with Rickie Fowler, Matt Kuchar and JB Holmes with a 4th and final addition still to be made on the 25th September.
Fowler has already played in 2 Ryder Cup matches, although is still to win his first match. Kuchar will be competing in his 4th Ryder Cup and Holmes previously helped the US team to victory in 2008.
The bookmakers certainly have the American team as the favourites leading into the event, but I'm not so convinced it will be a sure thing.. (It never is) One thing for sure, it's going to be great viewing as always..
Capro Cup - Teams Announced
During Ryder Cup weekend, we will also be having our very own team event with the Inaugural "CAPRO CUP" being played over the same weekend. The teams have now been finalised and I can now announce they are as follows:
We will have bacon rolls and coffee from 8am on
Saturday, 1 October where the Fourball matches will be revealed and team photos will be taken with the trophy. Its sure to be a great weekend of golf..
Castle Stuart Trip We are now fully subscribed for our members trip to Castle Stuart on Saturday, 24 September. Thanks again to everyone who got in contact and for those who couldn't make the date, hopefully this shall only be the first of many future away days, and so hopefully the dates will allow you to make the next trip.
I will post a draw early next week so that everyone knows what time they will be playing. The bus (for those booked) will be arriving at the clubhouse car park at 10.30am with the aim to depart at 11am sharp. This is to give us plenty of time to get our coffee & bacon roll and have a warm up on the range (or in the bar...)
Hole in 1 Club Moray member,
Richard Phelps had a hole in 1 on the 4th Hole of the Old Course this week using his 3 wood. He was partnered by
Alec Stewart, Peter Stuart and
Ronnie Stewart. Unfortunately he was in such a rush to get to the bar that I never managed to get a photo for the newsletter..
Moray Take Abercrombie Crown in Dramatic Playoff
Well done to the Moray Scratch team who managed to win the Abercrombie Cup for the first time in 11 years after a 3rd Hole playoff victory against defending champions Fraserburgh.
In a closely fought match, Moray won the first 3 matches out before Fraserburgh leveled the match at 3-3 winning matches 4 thru 6 taking it down to the last 2 matches on the course.
Jeff Wright managed to win on the last for a 1up victory, but the Anchor man
Kyle Godsman was beaten by the same score on the last hole to send the match into a playoff.
An exciting playoff saw both players birdie the 1st and par the 2nd playoff hole before Kyle managed to make a great up and down birdie at the 3rd playoff hole to grab victory for the team…
Well Done

Jimmy's Tee shot at the 4th Old landed 2 feet short of the green. A pitch mark, off the green, was on his line of play but because he was going to putt his next stroke he asked John if he was entitled to repair the ball mark. Was John in agreement?
Unfortunately not. Jimmy would be entitled to repair the ball mark if it was on the green even though his ball was off the green (Rule 16-1c). Jimmy then asked "what if the ball mark is half on and half off the green". John replied "Since it is impractical to allow the repair of only that part which is on the green, the player may repair the entire ball mark".
