Hello golfers,
I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another exciting edition of the Moray Pro Shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up to date with all the latest news and gossip from within the walls of MGC.
The weather has been pretty good this last week with plenty of sunshine and not too much wind which doesn't happen too often.. However the nights are getting shorter and sadly it's getting more difficult to squeeze in a few holes after a long day's work.
Castle Stuart Trip
I'm looking forward to our 1st members away day this Saturday, where 32 of us including yours truly will tee it up around Castle Stuart. The weather at present looks reasonable so hopefully the golfing Gods will look down on us kindly and keep the wind and rain away. For those taking the bus, it will be here at 10.30am in the top car park with the view to depart at 11am sharp.
Castle Stuart will have a list of the tee times should you forget. We will be running an Individual Stableford competition on the day with a few prizes up for grabs.
If you arrive after my 12.40 tee time then just go into the clubhouse for your bacon roll and coffee when you arrive (mentioning you're with Moray GC group). The halfway house will then take orders for your post match food. Any additional halfway house snacks will be put on your groups tab which can then be settled in the clubhouse after your game. I will then see you all in the clubhouse afterwards for a chat and to collect your cards.
I hope you all enjoy the game..

Next week the Old Course greens will be micro-cored and top dressed starting on Monday, 26 September. The New course greens will be done starting on Monday, 10 October. Hopefully these smaller cores and the mild weather will mean the greens can still recover quickly and we should have them back to their usual great surface in no time.

Charity Golf Memorabilia
Ken Lindsay and 9 friends who make up "The Tour" meet twice a year for golfing weekends. These take place at various places in the UK, but for the last 5 years one of these events has always taken place in Moray.
The weekend activities always include a charity auction, and this year's proceeds are going to be shared between The Rainbow Trust, which cares for families who have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness, and MND Scotland which supports people affected by Motor Neurone Disease.
The auction lots are usually provided by the guys (and girl) on The Tour, but this year has seen Liz Munro provide a welcome boost following her attendance as a match referee at the recent Ricoh British Women's Open. Liz's powers of persuasion are legendary and she managed to return north after securing many items from some of the top stars on show. These are all genuine Ricoh British Women's Open products and include the following:
2 x caps signed by world number one Lydia Ko
1 x cap signed by Catriona Matthew (Scotland's finest)
1 x red full wind umbrella
1 x white ladies Calvin Klein xs (size8) polo shirt signed by Ashleigh Simon
1 x white ladies Calvin Klein size L polo shirt signed by Melissa Reid
x white gents Calvin Klein size L polo shirt signed by Catriona Matthew
1 x white cotton Calvin Klein size L polo shirt signed by Charley Hull
1 x white cotton Calvin Klein size XL polo shirt signed by Lexi Thompson
1 x white (used) and signed Titleist golf ball Catriona Matthew
Liz's work was not complete however, and after spotting a print of Catriona Matthew as British Women's Open champion on display, an enquiry was made about the "remote" possibility of obtaining this as the star prize for the auction. Liz's delicate negotiations bore fruit and the deal was duly done, although unfortunately the competition was now complete and the players had gone .......... along with the prized signature to provide the icing on the cake.
"Oh, I will be seeing Catriona next week and can get her to sign it for you"...
Were the exact words that Liz wanted to hear and the golfing Gods were surely smiling down. Despite Catriona's efforts to keep the much loved picture for herself, it duly made it's way by courier up to sunny Lossiemouth. The finishing touches were added when Ken had the picture professionally framed, and as the photograph shows, it really is a quality piece.
If any members are interested in any of the auction items, Ken would be pleased to hear from them on 0787-0857155. All proceeds to The Rainbow Trust and MND Scotland.

Get started
Ian and Stuart were playing the 10th hole in their Hon John Tie. Ian had the honour and tee shot was hit down the left side close to the line of gorse bushes. Knowing that there was a possibility that he may not find his ball, he announced to Stuart that he would play a provisional ball. "Do I play my provisional ball before you have driven or after you have played".
Stuart was able to point Ian in the direction of Rule 10-3(Order of Play : Provisional Ball …….from the Teeing ground.) 'If a player plays a provisional ball(or other ball from the teeing ground)he must do so after his opponent or fellow competitor has made his first stroke. If more than one player elects to play a provisional ball or is required to play another ball from the Tee, the original order of play must be retained. If a player plays a provisional ball (from the Tee) out of turn in match play there is no penalty but the opponent may immediately require the player to cancel and replay the stroke. In Stroke play there is no penalty.
