I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another exciting edition of the Moray Pro Shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up to date with all the latest news and gossip from within the walls of MGC.

 

This will be my last newsletter before I'm away for my end of season winter holiday. I will be heading back out to the middle east to Abu Dhabi to top up my tan.

I will however manage a couple of games at Abu Dhabi Golf Club with one of their Professionals who I used to work with during my years at Gleneagles.

I will also be ticking something off my bucket list. I'm going to be doing my first ever tandem skydive (and probably my last) over Dubai's Palm Island. Mel bought this for me as a Christmas gift a few years ago and I've finally managed to get this booked in. Hopefully I'll be able to share the experience with you (if all goes well) on my return.

Therefore I will be leaving you in the very capable hands of Derek and Julieann while I'm away.




Autumn Stableford (CSS 76 R/O) 

It was a horrible day last Saturday for the final event of the season. With rain starting in the morning and staying on for most of the day, entries were dropping like flies..

However just over 50 brave souls battled the elements and in the end 32 points was good enough to take the honors for Mike Boaler who was one shot ahead of Stephen Houston (31) with Bob Macpherson and Jim Docherty finishing on 30 pts.

The Winter Cup

The winter cup will kick off on Saturday, 5 and Sunday, 6 November on the New Course. 

We shall be running an individual stableford competition on each day with the top 2 scores in each of the two sections (0-10 & 11-36) awarded prizes. The best 3 scores on each course will also count towards the overall Order of Merit title.

Juniors on their Travels.. 

Some of the junior members got the opportunity to play Castle Stuart last week during the school holidays thanks to our junior conveyor, Graham Broad managing to sweet talk them into giving us 4 complimentary tee times. 

Graham Broad and Norman Grant looked after the group on the day and they all looked very smart with their new team polo shirts.

Jack Ure was the leading individual on the day with a great 39 stableford points. 

This week Derek is away on a 3 day golfing trip with some of the juniors.

Hole in 1 Club 

Belated Congratulations to Neil Stewart on getting a hole in 1 at the 6th Hole on the Old Course during the Autumn Meeting a few weeks back. Neil was partnered by Ian Campbell and Bob Adams. 

I somehow managed to forget to put this in a few weeks back. 

At least your Hugo Boss (hole in 1) watch is on time..

We have just taken stock of the new Titleist 917 Driver and Fairway woods. These have a new weight port in the head which allows you to adjust the head weight to help favour your preferred shape shot.

We have a great selection of fitting clubs which includes Drivers in 8.5,9.5,10.5 and 12 degrees with 4 different shaft options available in ladies, seniors, regular and stiff flex. 

The fairways are available in 13, 15, 16.5 and 18 degree lofts again with all shaft options available

Titleist 917 Launch Event

We will be holding a Titleist Launch Event on Saturday, 22 October (this Saturday) between 11.00am and 2.00pm at the practice area. 

We will have 6 FOC fitting appointments lasting 30 mins each where you can put your old driver/fairway up against the new 917 offerings.

Anyone purchasing any driver or fairway outright on the day will receive a sleeve of ProV1 balls. If you buy both then we shall give you a Dozen Pro V1 balls (must be paid in full to claim free balls).

The new course greens planned maintenance has been put off until the New Year which means that while the Old Course greens recover from their hollow coring, the new greens will still be in great condition for play over the winter.


 

Billy and Peter parked their trolleys at the 8th (old) and walked back to the White Tee. Peter came off his drive and his ball hit Billy's trolley first then ricocheted onto his own trolley. "I have never done that before what happens now" he asked. 

In match play because his ball first struck his opponent's trolley (equipment) he may replay the stroke, without penalty, regardless of what happens thereafter to his ball. Rule 19-3. Peter may also play his ball as it lies but would do so under penalty of one stroke because, after striking Billy's equipment his ball struck his own equipment. 

In stroke play although a ball first struck a fellow competitor's equipment Peter incurs a penalty of one stroke and must play his ball as it lies. (Rules 19-1, 19-2 & 19-4)
