Hello golfers,
I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another exciting edition of the Moray Pro Shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up to date with all the latest news and gossip from within the walls of MGC.
Junior End of Season Tour
Last week I had the pleasure of accompanying 12 juniors, Graham Broad and Alan Cowie on a 3 day tour, where we went to Aboyne Golf Club, St Andrews and Blairgowrie. Which were all fantastic hosts and great venues. Each day we ran a Stableford competition and I put up some prizes for the juniors. On day 1 Ryan Sherwood returned a superb 42 points at Aboyne, he then followed up that with 33 points on the Jubilee Course at St Andrews on a very windy day to tie with Alan Currie. And finally at Blairgowrie, Alan Currie returned a great 41 points to take the spoils.
Day 2 at St Andrews was a great experience for the juniors. The morning was spent at the St Andrews Golf Museum which was organized by Neil McConnachie a Moray member and also a member of the R&A. A massive thank you for your time, organization and wisdom.
As well as imparting his knowledge and taking us on a guided tour of the final few holes of the old course he also managed to get us inside the R&A Club House on the 1st tee of the old course. Where we were lucky enough to see the real Claret Jug which is yet to be engraved. We then headed onto the clubhouse at the Eden Course for Lunch before we headed to the Jubilee course.
Our final day was spent at Blairgowrie where we have a reciprocal agreement and many of you will have played. Junior members of Blairgowrie played with our own juniors in a friendly match and great fun was had by all.
It was truly a great 3 days away with the juniors which they all loved. I would just like to say a massive thank you to our junior convener
Graham Broad who organized the tour and has done a fantastic job this year with the juniors, and thank you for having me on tour. Also a huge thanks to
Alan Cowie who also helped out with the juniors as well as drove the mini bus for 3 days.
Graham, Alan, John Thomson and
Farquhar Thomson have all played a huge part in ensuring the juniors have had their medals run and also junior matches, thank you for all your efforts.
Harrington the Wedge Wizard
3 time major winner Padraig Harrington is a winner on the European tour again which is great to see. His win was down to the magic with his wedges, with his scrambling at 96%. He had 25 chances to get up and down around the greens with Padraig taking 51 shots which included a couple of chip in's and a holed bunker shot.

Winter Cup The winter cup will kick off on
Saturday, 5 and Sunday, 6 November on the New Course. We shall be running an individual stableford competition on each day with the top 2 scores in each of the two sections (0-10 & 11-36) awarded prizes.
The best 3 scores on each course will also count towards the overall Order of Merit title.
Alistair and Bruce hit their second shots into the water hazard crossing the 11th fairway) Old. Neither ball could be found due to the murkiness of the water and therefore it was not known which ball was further from the hole. However Bruces's ball last crossed the margin of the hazard further from the hole than Alistair's ball. 'How do we proceed now'? Asked Bruce.
The ball to be played first should be decided by lot, just as would be the case if the balls were equidistant from the hole ( Rules 10-1b and 10-2b)
