Hello golfers,
I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another exciting edition of the Moray Pro Shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up to date with all the latest news and gossip from within the walls of MGC.
With John away on holiday throughout the week, the newsletter has been left to me (Derek) to update you on all that is going on at the club and in the shop.
As some of you will know I recently undertook my TPI - Titleist Performance Institute Certification. It all sounds a bit fancy, but in short it's all about the body/swing connection. How your physical characteristic will result in how you swing the club. Through a physical screening we will be able to assess your range of motion at each joint and the major golf muscles. From here we can give you a corrective plan with exercise and stretches to create greater mobility and stability. All this is done to create an efficient and effective golf swing.
If you would like to know more or to book in for a session pop past the shop or get in touch.
One of the main philosophies of TPI is the team ethos, working as a group to enhance coaching and learning. One of my clients Graeme Masson is also a client of John. John and Graeme have been working hard on the swing side while I've been able to relay findings through our physical assessment as to how we can make the body move more effectively.
''Dear members and golfers,
I believe all golfers want to play better golf whether through course golf, practice area work, lessons, equipment changes, physical training, or execution of information gleaned from other sources. We all have the same goals, to be better golfers, improve our scores, understand how to create consistency and therefore enjoy the game more.
Recently I had a 1:1 physical screening regarding the TPI (Titleist Performance Institute Level 1) course our assistant pro Derek Ramsay attended, which gives you, regardless of age and physical disposition, an understanding of how your body and it's abilities function throughout the golf swing. Following a full diagnosis, Derek then provides you with an appropriate exercise plan, so you can improve your body's functionality within the golf swing, resulting in potential swing and scoring improvements.
I would recommend all golfers wishing to improve consider such a screening but advocate it's up to you what you do regarding the diagnosis. Well worth the cost of a standard golf lesson."

Titleist 917
The last couple weeks has been dominated by the release of the new Titleist 917 ranges, which look stunning, and with the new CG fitting provides us with great customization possibilities for complete performance. At our launch event for the 5 players, we managed to increase overall distance on average by 12 yards which is about 1 less club into the green. Here is some data from one the players fitted
Player 1 with his current driver had very inconsistent spin numbers, jumping from 1830 rpm to 3175 rpm, and also his launch angles were jumping from 8.4 - 13.3 degrees. This resulted in drives averaging 235 yards carry.
We fitted the player with a 9.5 D3, as you can see launch increased to 13.9 on average, but we were able to reduce his spin to 1886rpm. Which creates better launch conditions and drives averaging 250 yards carry
Being fitted for a new driver or irons is crucial in getting the most out of new equipment. We use Foresight Sport GC2 Launch Monitor technology which is the same you will see on Sky Sports Golf. If you want to know more or to book in for a fitting

Race Night @ Moray GC - Saturday, 19 November
We are hosting a night at the races here at Moray from 8:00pm.

James and John were playing a friendly game. They came to 10th Green on the Old Course and James's approach on landing hit the down slope and shot across the green and ended up 2 feet into the gorse bush.
He deemed it unplayable and told John that he was going to take 2 club lengths to the side.
The spot that he was going to have to drop was in deep rough.
James marked out 2 club lengths from his ball dropped it but it struck the ground nearer the flag and therefore he had to re-drop. At this stage he decided to change his mind and go back to where he had played his pitch and re-take the shot for the same penalty.
Was John in agreement with this interpretation of the Unplayable Ball Rule?
A. Yes. Because James had dropped his ball in a wrong place and as it was not played he was entitled to proceed under any of the options of Rule 28 Unplayable Ball
