Greetings from John Murray
Moray Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another exciting edition of the Moray Pro Shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up to date with all the latest news and gossip from within the walls of MGC.

Pros news

GolfSixes

Last weekend saw the European Tour play another of its new format events in the GolfSixes which was hosted over 2 days. The event featured 32 players representing 16 Countries, with matches being played in the greensomes format over a 6 hole course.

The new event is an attempt to make golf more attractive to entice a new generation of golfers to take up the game. It is not looking at replacing the traditional game but merely adding a shorter more exciting format to the game as has proved popular with the likes of 20/20 cricket.

The event at the Centurian Club in London featured activity packed holes which included music playing as the players were announced onto the 1st tee, charity donations for any birdies made, longest drive and nearest the pin competitions and even a stop clock on one hole which gave the players 40 seconds to play their shot or be penalised.

After initial group stages featuring 3 matches for each team, the top 2 progressed to the knockout stages on the final day. In the end it was Norway who lifted the trophy defeating Australia in the final, with Scotland managing to take 3rd place overall.

I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts on the event. Click here to give me your views.

Tour news

McIlroy Signs for TaylorMade

After months of testing out pretty much everything that was out there, Rory McIlroy announced that he has signed a new equipment contract with TaylorMade Golf. McIlroy will play the M2 driver and fairway woods, the new milled grind wedges and a new prototype iron. This wasn't a huge surprise as he had been seen trying the product out in tournament play a few months back.

However what was more surprising was that he has also signed up to use the new TaylorMade TP5 ball. Seemingly he wasn't happy with how high his previous ball was spinning especially into the wind at Augusta. He seems to have been very impressed at the new balls ability to perform, especially in the wind. McIlroy tees it up again this week for what many people see as the 5th major, The Players Championship at Sawgrass and all eyes will be on him to see if the equipment switch can make an immediate impact!

On the subject of TaylorMade, we have our next fitting day on Wednesday, 24 May between 3-7pm on the practice area. Book in for a FREE 30 minute appointment by clicking here or just come along and give the hottest product in golf a try!

Caddy Jobs at Moray Golf Club

We occasionally get requests for caddies here at Moray Golf Club and need the help of the membership to help out with these jobs.

The standard caddy fee is £35 plus gratuity and we are looking to update our list of potential caddies. Click here if you would like to be added or kept on our current list letting us know days you are available and giving us a contact number for you.

Our first big job is that we require 16 caddies for Sunday, 4 June. Caddies must have an official handicap and have very good knowledge of the Old Course and New course layout to be able to qualify for any caddy jobs.

Fitting day

Titleist Golf Ball Fitting

This is a new event for this year and lets the Titleist staff watch you hit a few balls and with launch monitor data help recommend which golf ball will help you get the most from your game. There will be some special promotions on the balls on the day too. I will also have a special prize draw where everyone who books in for a ball fitting on the day will be entered into a prize draw for a dozen of your fitted balls.

All you need to do is give up 30 minutes of your time, come along and hopefully learn something new on the day that might improve your game. Click here or call the shop on 813330 to book your time slot for Tuesday, 30 May between 12-3pm.
