Greetings from John Murray
Moray Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional
I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another exciting edition of the Moray Pro Shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up to date with all the latest news and gossip from within the walls of MGC.
The Players
Another great weekend's golf unfolded at the Players Championship at Sawgrass with Si Woo Kim rewriting the record books as he became the youngest player to ever win the event at 21 years old. Kim was the only player to record a bogey free final (-3) on way to a -10 under par total to win by 3 shots from Britain's Ian Poulter.
This win is now his 2nd PGA Tour event win after he won last years Wyndham Championship, which gave him a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour. This victory comes with perks beyond the $1.89 million first prize. He now gets a five-year exemption on the PGA Tour, and a three-year exemption to the Masters.
Poulter made his biggest finish in some time. It was only recently that he thought he had lost his tour card, only to be given a reprieve due to a clerical error which gave him the chance to get himself back inside the top 100 and secure his card!
The Masters Champion, Garcia started horribly on Thursday after a front nine 40! However a hole in 1 on the famous 17th helped him get back into contention on Sunday, although a poor final round saw him fall away. Another Spaniard, Rafa Cabrera Bello Made history when he became the only player ever to Albatross the par 5 16th hole. His 3,2,4 finish helped him move up into a tie for 5th place on 5 under par.
Moray take home the Trophy!!
Congratulations to the gents scratch team on winning the Moray & Nairn Golf League at Nairn Golf Club over the weekend. In what must have been one of the closest finishes in years, Moray eventually maintained their unbeaten record with 2 wins and 2 draws to lift the trophy.
At one stage during the final afternoon, 3 teams could still win the trophy and the projected final league table was a little too close for comfort. However the team rallied together and Moray managed to tie 4-4 with Nairn in the final match to secure victory.

I will also have a special prize draw where everyone who books in for a ball fitting on the day will be entered into a prize draw for a dozen of your fitted balls.
All you need to do is give up 30 minutes of your time, come along and hopefully learn something new on the day that might improve your game. Click here or call the shop on 813330 to book your time slot for Tuesday, 30 May between 12-3pm.

James had driven his ball tight down the left side of the 13th Old. He found his ball had bounced off the banking and ended up 2ft into the gorse and deciding that he had no shot on deemed his ball unplayable. He knew that if he had to drop on the banking his ball would bounce back into the gorse. "This can't be fair he muttered." "Can you tell me my options" he asked Peter.
Peter explained that; 1. He could replay his shot again from the Tee (stroke & distance) 2. Go back on a line keeping the spot where his ball lay between him and the flag with no limit as to how far back he may drop. 3. Drop a ball 2 club lengths from his ball but not nearer the hole. James opted to drop on the 14th fairway where he managed to successfully get back onto the 13th.
Peter added that in the proposed new Rules 2019 he would not have to drop a ball at shoulder height and at arm's length. How a ball may be dropped is simplified, with no limitations on how the ball must be held or how high it must be dropped from. The only requirement would be that the ball be let go from a height above the ground or any growing thing or a natural or artificial object so that it falls through the air. Rather than be set down or placed on these things. How good is this!!
