Greetings from John Murray
Moray Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional
I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another exciting edition of the Moray Pro Shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up to date with all the latest news and gossip from within the walls of MGC.
It's been another fine week of weather down on the links with temperatures reaching into the high 20's at the end of last week which was fantastic to see. I managed to play a few holes one night after work and as I was coming off the course this is the view I had. It sure is a beautiful place when the sun shines and the wind stops blowing!!
Next week we are hosting the Northern Open over the Old Course from Monday - Thursday and so just a reminder that the course will be closed during this time. However the New Course is open during this time for members wanting to play.
Good Luck to our very own Derek Ramsay who is playing as well as Moray members Graham Murray and Jake Scott. Here's hoping a little local knowledge will help them head up towards the top of the leaderboard during the week.
The practice area will be busy during these 4 days so it's maybe best to put off your practice until the evenings when the range will be much quieter.

Tiger Woods driving problems continued this week but for completely different reasons!!
Titleist Golf Ball Fitting
Thanks to everyone who came along to our first Titleist Ball Fitting Event on Tuesday. We had 13 members who came along to the event which had them hit some 50 yard shots, 7 irons and Drivers and the data captured on Trackman. David from Titleist then made recommendations on which ball he felt suited your game most from their range.
There were some interesting results and many of the better players that were fitted found out that the ProV1 and ProV1x balls actually performed differently to what they had thought.
1) Everyone is good enough to use Titleist ProV1 balls regardless of their swing speed
2) Pro V1x actually spins more and flies higher that ProV1
3) ProV1 does have a softer feel (but soft feel and spin are 2 very different things)
Everyone who came along and supported the event got 2 sleeves of balls with their 2 recommended balls to try out on the course.

Playing the 10th New Billy's chip to the green finished on the left side close to the edge of the green. He marked his ball then Graham putted out. Billy replaced his ball and went behind the hole to study his line. At that a gust of wind coming from the seaside set his ball in motion and down the slope it gathered speed ending up in a clump of heathered rough. This is bad luck said Billy I was looking at an 8ft putt now I'll be lucky to get club to ball. What had Graham to add?
Graham agreed that it was tough where he finished but cheered him up by bringing to his attention that the new Proposed rule in 2019 states' If the ball had been lifted and replaced on its original spot before it moved, the ball must always be replaced on its original spot, regardless of what caused it to move.
The ball must be played from its new spot only if the ball had not been lifted and replaced before it moved. Billy liked the New Proposals.
