I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another exciting edition of the Moray Pro Shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up-to-date with all the latest news and gossip from within the walls of MGC.

But first, did you see the speed of one round on the PGA tour last weekend? PGA rookie Wesley Bryan proved that not all PGA Tour Players are slow as he played his final round of the BMW Championships in 1 hour and 29 minutes!

His round included 14 pars, 3 birdies and a bogey in a 2 under par 69. Bryan played slightly more than a stroke a minute and 5 minutes per hole! When he finished on the 18th the group behind were still on the 8th hole.

Moray Lifts the Northern Counties Cup

Moray 1's team of Stuart Tatters, Kyle Godsman, Malcolm MacLeman and Graham Murray achieved a convincing eight-hole victory over Murcar Links in the final of the Northern Counties Cup at the Moray Golf Club links at Lossiemouth today.

Moray last won the double foursomes match-play tournament on their home course in 2005 while Murcar Links' last triumph was at the Lossiemouth links in 1999 when their team was Bryan Innes, Ronnie Duncan, Alan Reith and Andrew Campbell.

Moray’s last winning line-up was John Matheson, Ian Geddes, Gary Thomson and Kevin Thomson. This is the 106th final since the first competition in 1900.

Local knowledge played a big part in Moray's win over the past three days but, in the final, Malcom MacLeman and Stuart Tatters were four under par after 15 holes and five up. At the 450 yard 14th hole Anthony Bews of Murcar Links holed his second shot to bring their deficit back to three holes but with Moray’s first string being five up at the 15th the game was all over.

Murcar Links were represented by Adrian Styles, Bryan Innes, Anthony Bews and Ian Galbraith.

Moray’s team now currently holds all 3 of the available team trophies and will look to continue this with a win in Sundays Abercrombie Cup final against Newmachar GC. The final will be played at Duff House Royal Golf Club with first tee time at 1.30pm

Rule of the week

Rule of the Week 21st September 2017

Chris's drive at the 13th hole (New) ended short right of the green in an indentation at the base of a tree in a position that it is clearly impracticable for him to make a stroke. Despite this he claims relief without penalty under R 25-1 because his stance for a stroke at the ball in the indentation would be on a rabbit mound.

What did Jimmy have to tell him.?

Jimmy told Chris that under the Exception to R 25-1b a player may not obtain relief from an abnormal condition if it is clearly impractical for him to make a stroke due to interference by something other than such a condition. In the circumstances described by Chris his ball is unplayable as it lies in the indentation at the base of a tree.

Therefore he is not entitled to relief under R 25-1 from the burrowing animal hole.

Undercover Practice Bays

I'm pleased to say that we are going to go ahead and build 2 undercover bays at the bottom end of the practice area over the winter months. This will help Derek and I with our coaching and allow us to coach and custom fit even when the weather is against us.

We are currently applying for planning permission and hope this can go ahead and be completed before the end of the year. We decided to go for the bottom end of the current practice area to allow us to keep out of the rain and prevailing westerly winds. Hitting from this end will also allow the build to blend in with its surroundings, provide a wider hitting area and over 300 yards to the current right of way path through the course.

This facility will be open for members to use at any time when not in use by either Derek or I. If anyone has any questions regarding the build then click here and I'd be happy to hear your feedback.

Special Guest Appearance for 1 Day Only

We have a special guest appearance on Friday 6th October.

Julieann will be making a return to the ProShop for one day only as she has agreed to cover for Derek and I as we head to Hampden to see if the Scotland football team can keep the nations dream alive as they host Slovakia. I decided to take Derek down to the game as a thanks for his hard work over the year and passing his PGA Final exams earlier in the summer.

We are taking 30 min appointments for anyone who would like to come down to the shop for a chat with Julieann as we expect demand to be high and there will be a high chance of queues out the shop door!
