Here’s some feedback I got from the event: “Thanks for everything this weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and your captaincy was exemplary. Already looking forward to next year.”
(Bob Adams) You know what it’s like (most of you)... You’ve had a rubbish season but want it to end on a high. No trophies to be presented with, not even a runner’s-up position to console yourself with an “almost” feeling! This year saw the same emptiness and only the pleasurable memory of all those comps with a variety of fellow Moray “pro’s”, often making new acquaintances who were equally adept at bemoaning the state of their game. What perked things up AGAIN as the end of season 2017 beckoned was the club’s newest competition... The Capro Cup. I don’t know what it was, but after the outrageous success of last year’s inaugural Capro, I naturally assumed that this year’s event would be anti-climatic... How wrong I was!!
I mean, how could I have had any doubt? You pay literally peanuts to enter the qualifying events (masquerading in the background of normal club comps) and these provide additional competition in their own rights. I’ve hacked my way round on several of them and refused to NR because while I’ve known that the chance of winning the monthly medal (or whatever I was playing in) had long since sailed out into the Moray Firth, there was always a chance of some qualifying points for the Capro! So what did you get for your entrance fee this year?... Well other than an additional ten attempts at glory, how about the chance to represent one of the two Capro teams in a full scale “Ryder Cup” style weekend, a free club top suitably embroidered with Club and Capro Cup status, bacon rolls and coffee on arrival, soup and sandwiches at lunchtime, team camaraderie and the chance to make some quality new friends, before, during and after a series of massively fun and sporting series of matchplay contests. Well I can tell you that it was quite simply a fantastic weekend again, superbly hosted by the resident winning captain (John). As a mere participant, the realisation of the organisation required and the personal input that John had provided was all too obvious, not to mention the cost! I am offering this summary in the hope that John will not be too shy to “publish” as part of his weekly newsletter (along with the full Cup results), not only as a massive thank you from the 24 players involved, but to inform any club members out there who don’t quite know what it’s all about, especially with an even better programme of events already in the pipeline for next year... It’s the countdown to the Capro Cup 2018 guys, if you are lucky enough to be involved then you will be joining the chorus of proud participants who are wildly cheering and echoing the chant of “BRING IT ON”!!!
