I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another exciting edition of the Moray Pro Shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up to date with all the latest news and gossip from within the walls of MGC. This will be the last newsletter of the 2017 season, so I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support over the year and hope you all enjoy the festive break.

Much deserved!

This week Derek and I have been down in Glasgow for the annual Scottish PGA Lunch at Glasgow’s Hilton Hotel. This year there was Eamon Darcy as the guest speaker who chatted with Dougie Donnelly about his career on tour including his many Ryder Cup appearances. There were over 700 hundred who attend the event, which included fellow Professionals and many business men and ladies who have a connection with the PGA.

However, the main event was our very own Derek Ramsay receiving the Stewart Thom Salver for Scottish PGA Assistant of the Year 2017. It was great to see Derek pick up the award and join a host of illustrious winners over the years including one J Murray all the way back in 2005 – haha.

Derek has really put in a huge effort into his training and it’s great to see that rewarded in this way.

I might need to get the cheque book out to keep him here at Moray GC!

This weekend will be the last chance to improve on your Winter Cup scores before we break up for 2 weeks over Christmas and New Year. The competition will resume on the weekend of the 6/7th January.

The Christmas shop hours are as follows:

• 22nd - 24th December 9.00am - 4.00pm
• Christmas Day CLOSED
• Boxing Day 9.00am - 12.00pm
• 27th - 31st December 9.00am - 2.30pm

Proposed rule change for 2019

Graham’s drive at the 10th New was right side of the fairway in the rough area of thick grass. Chris’s drive being far left on the 9th fairway walked quickly to his Ball. He had just reached his ball when Graham called him over. Under Rule 12-2 before lifting the ball Graham must announce his intention to fellow competitor (SP) or opponent (MP) and mark the position ball.

He may then lift the ball and identify it, provided that he gives Chris, his fellow competitor, or an opponent (MP), an opportunity to observe the lifting and replacing. The ball must not be cleaned beyond the extent necessary for identification when lifted under this rule. If the ball is Graham’s ball and he fails to comply with all or any part of this procedure or he lifts his Ball in order to identify without having good reason to do so he incurs a penalty of one stroke.

Chris was delighted to tell Graham that this procedure for identifying the ball will be changing in the proposed 2019 Rules of Golf, New Rule 7-3 . No longer will it be necessary for your fellow competitor or opponent to be present to observe the lifting and replacing of the ball. The player must mark its spot and must not clean the ball more needed to identify it.
