Competition news

Round Up

We had a very busy weekend at the club with the Students all arriving on Saturday for practice rounds ahead of their individual and team championships. We also had our annual season opening match against Elgin Golf Club.

I was feeling very positive about this year’s result and with our last victory in 2011, I felt this was our year!!

Unfortunately I was wrong again!! Elgin lifted the trophy once again but it was a closely fought match with the overall result finishing 21.5 - 19.5.

However 2nd place isn't so bad right?

I managed out on the course with Stevie Grant (Secretary) as we took on the Elgin Professional (Michael Mcallan) and Club Secretary (Barbara-Anne Rumbles)

I’m very pleased to say that Stevie and I managed a 3/2 victory to win our point for the team albeit not enough to matter in the overall match score.

However I hope you all enjoyed your day out on the course which was in fantastic condition for March and let’s hope we can go one better next year and finally lift the trophy!!

Easter Weekend

This weekend we have the Open Texas Scramble on the Old Course on Saturday

We will also be running our Easter Weekend Eggstravaganza!! Anyone spending over £50 in the shop (not including equipment) over Saturday, Sunday and Monday will get the chance to win their shopping for FREE!!

We will have a number of Easter Eggs with a discount voucher inside each of them. There will also be one egg which will have a 100% discount for one lucky winner.

Moray Masters Par 3 Tournament - Who will win the Green Jacket??

It’s now under 2 weeks to our first Moray Masters Par 3 event. This is a fun event for everyone to get involved with and I have now received the official “Green Jacket” for the winner ahead of the event. So who will win this year’s Green Jacket and be crowned Moray Masters Champion 2018?

Anyone interested in playing should register their interest with the shop. Entry will be £5 which will go towards the prize fund.

The clubhouse will be open after the event to watch the final round coverage of the Official US Masters.

Ladybird Quiz Night

Thanks to everyone that supported the Ladybird Quiz on Friday night. I’m glad to say that they made just over £500 on the night which was fantastic. Well done!

The cost is £30 for 4 hours coaching.

Rule of the week

Ball in Motion Deflected or Stopped

Derek is playing the 18th hole of the old course and has a putt for a birdie 3 which he just misses. All of a sudden a seagull swoops down and picks up his ball carrying it off and dropping it back down the fairway. What do I do now asks Derek?

As per Rule 19-1b, after a stroke on the putting green, when a ball has been deflected or stopped by an animate outside agency, such as a bird, the stroke is cancelled and the ball must be replaced and replayed. See also Decision 19-1/7.
