Greetings from John Murray Moray Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another exciting edition of the Moray Pro Shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up-to-date with all the latest news and gossip from within the walls of MGC. It’s been a busy week here at the Golf Club as the weather has finally turned for the better. Derek and I have been busy with lessons, club fittings and club repairs as the sunshine has brought everyone out in their masses. |
Sport Moray Primary and Secondary Competition We hosted the Sport Moray Primary and Secondary schools competitions on Tuesday and I ran a number of mini competitions for the Primary schools kids. It was great to see such a good turnout and thankfully I had the help of our very own Monica Grant and some parents to make the event a success. Monica’s grandson Paul Donaldson, a junior member picked up a gold medal for the Longest/Straightest Drive. |
PGA Graduation Derek has made his way down to Birmingham this week for his PGA graduation at the University of Birmingham. I’m sure he’ll enjoy a well-deserved few days away from work and look forward to seeing the photos. |
Silver Jubilee Cup This weekend we have the Silver Jubilee Cup on the Old Course on Saturday with around 150 currently booked up for the event which is great to see. On Sunday we have a Mixed Open Greensomes on the Old Course with a couple of tee time slots available if anyone fancies a late entry! Whatever you have planned, have a great weekend and see you down on the links very soon! |
Race to the Capro Cup 2018 We are almost at that time of year where we start the qualification process for our 3rd Capro Cup Match to be played on Saturday, 6 October. The format follows a Ryder Cup style event with 2 teams, the Captains team against the Professionals team. This year we have decided to shorten the event to just a one day event with a morning Greensomes followed by afternoon singles matches to see who will be crowned the Capro Cup Champions 2018.
|
We will have a number of qualifying events throughout the season and it only costs £5 to join the race, with those qualifying getting a team top, breakfast, lunch and on course refreshments throughout the day. This year we will have 2 qualifying handicap sections with 8 qualifiers in each section plus 6 wildcard picks to make up the 24 team players.

Moray Team Romp to Landslide Win! "Report from our Forres correspondent: A Lossie team of Jamie McCulloch, Gary Stewart, Hector Clarke & a Trialist triumphed in last Sunday's Texas Scramble at Forres GC. Jamie was a passenger in the taxi from Lossie to Forres and continued in the same vein on the course. However, his team leadership and a late flourish resulted in a victory by 1.6 shots" |

Product of The Week The New Motocaddy CUBE CONNECT Push Trolley has arrived instore and is my Product of the Week. The revolutionary compact-folding CUBE CONNECT is the world’s only GPS enabled push trolley. The latest member of the CONNECT family, it offers on screen GPS and optional smartphone alerts.
Featuring a Smart Display conveniently positioned in the soft-touch handle, the CUBE CONNECT can be linked to the fully-featured Motocaddy GPS app via a Bluetooth connection on any compatible smartphone; allowing the trolley's digital display to be used in place of a conventional GPS, offering front, middle and back distances to the green along with par of the hole, plus shot measurement, a clock and round timer. In addition, the CUBE CONNECT boasts a number of performance enhancing features, including a simple two-step folding system that allows it to easily reduce down in size to fit into the smallest of car boots. Its ergonomic handle with adjustable height control features generous integrated storage space, including an under-handle net, an accessory compartment; plus tee and ball holders. Other features include easy-run oversize wheels, a foot-operated parking brake, adjustable bag supports and the popular EASILOCK bag-to-trolley connection system. |
It’s not the cheapest trolley on the market at £219.99 but it’s compact, easy to assemble and loaded with features! Come into the shop for a look and let us show you how it works. |
Double Trade In...Too Good to be True? You may have noticed a particular well known online retailer heavily advertising a double trade in offer during The Masters TV coverage. Sounds like a great offer doesn’t it? But is this offer as good as it seems? This week we had a customer ask if I would match their offer and so I happily agreed:
The customer traded in a TaylorMade M2 2016 driver which was in good general condition. Using the double trade in terms and conditions (as used by the online retailer) we ended up with a total value (doubled up) of only £90. I then made a call to Golfbidder, an online company we use here at Moray Pro Shop to give our customers a realistic, honest trade in price. The same club was valued at £110 from Golfbidder. Therefore a double trade offer may appear great on paper but is it too good to be true? On this occasion it appears to be the case. So if you’re thinking about upgrading your current equipment then please come and pay us a visit and see what we can do for you. |

Battery Trade In Lithium batteries are quicker charging, last longer and work out cheaper in the long run than the standard Lead Acid alternatives, so it's time to say goodbye if you're still using one. As such, we'll give you £25 when you trade-in your old battery against a new Lithium one. Motocaddy has now made Lithium even more affordable, so this really is a fantastic opportunity to save yourself some money. Watch the video to find out why so many people are upgrading from Lead Acid to Lithium. |

Immovable Obstructions Brian’s second shot at the 5th New looked as if was going to stop just before the ditch, but when he walked up he noticed that his ball had finished on the fairway side on the bank of the ditch close to the steps. He knew that he would be given relief for steps in bunkers interfering with his stance and he thought that the ditch being a hazard there would be no difference. He asked Graham to explain the difference.
Graham was able to point out to Brian that under Rule 24-2 steps are Immovable Obstructions occurring - Through the green, in a bunker, on the putting green, or on the teeing ground, but under Note 1 of this Rule water hazards Inc. lateral water hazards are not included . He would have to play his ball as it lies or take relief for 1 penalty stroke under Rule 26-1. |
Consider a smart new look |
As it seems to do every year, the Masters has ignited the season and prompted many of you to dust off your clubs and take to the course. If this is you and you haven't been in the shop recently, make sure you come and take a look around as we have some fantastic new products sitting on the shelves, including our club crested range of apparel. This Glenmuir Hatfield polo is a great option as it combines a modern look with subtle detail to create a really stylish shirt. It's made from high-performance stretch fabric that is manufactured to work with your swing; a huge benefit of buying golf-specific clothing from us rather than a cheap polo from the high street. |
