I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another exciting edition of the Moray Pro Shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up to date with all the latest news and gossip from within the walls of MGC.

We have had a great week of weather and it’s amazing how quickly the course has firmed up. I had a few holes on Monday night and then managed a full round on Saturday (after the medal) and it was amazing how different the course was playing with the fairways and greens firming up and the course starting to play like a true links....hard and fast!

We have our next Fitting day booked in for Thursday, 21 June with Titleist between 2.00-6.30pm.

We have only 6 x 45 min fitting appointments for anyone interested in the current range.

Pro's news

Pro’s Day

It’s just over a week to go until Pro’s Day.

We have 25 teams signed up so far which is great and just slightly behind last year’s 31 teams.

If you’re still thinking about entering a team then just call into the shop and we can get you booked in. We still have some morning and afternoon slots. We also have a 2 balls (AM) and a single player (PM) who would like to join up with some other players to make up a team of 4 golfers if anyone else is interested in joining up with them. Members can also bring along a guest for the day to join their team at a cost of £20.

Here is a rundown of what’s happening on the day:

- Teams of four
- Individual & Team Stableford
- Cafe Del Mar @ 9th Green
- Food & Refreshments
- Beat the Pro Competition
- Prize for Best Dressed Team (Brighter the better)
- Over £1500 worth of prizes
- Raising Money for the local Ladybird Group

Sunday Open

Congratulations to Malcolm Macleman on winning the Sunday open scratch section with a level par 71 to win by 2 shots from Jordan Edwards and Danny Edwards (Elgin)

There was plenty of other Moray players on the prize table with Steve Beveridge taking 2nd place in the handicap section 1 and Stewart Rothnie in Division 2 also picking up 2nd place.

Junior Summer Camps

We have had to reschedule our summer camp dates due to Moray GC hosting the Scottish Boys & Girls Amateur Matchplay Championships during the first week of the school holidays. Therefore our revised dates are as follows:

Rule of the week

Provisional Ball

Paul hit a poor sliced tee shot into the gorse at the 7th Old and immediately announced that he would play a provisional ball. Teed up and hit a perfect drive well down the fairway. I’m not going to look for my 1st ball said Paul but the other players went to search for his original ball and found it a foot into the gorse. They called to Paul to come and identify the ball but he said that on the tee he was not going to look for his original ball. What did the other players do in this situation?

In match or stroke play your opponent or fellow competitors have the right to be satisfied about the identification of a player’s ball and thus Paul cannot decline to identify the ball that was found irrespective of what he had announced on the tee. If it was his Ball he had to abandon the provisional ball and continue play with his ball played from the tee.
