Greetings from John Murray Moray Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another exciting edition of the Moray Pro Shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up to date with all the latest news and gossip from within the walls of MGC. |
US Open This week we have the 2nd major of the year taking place as the US Open heads to Shinnecock Hills for the 118th Championships. This is the 5th time Shinnecock have hosted the event and its lowest score to date is a meagre four under par! It’s certainly sure to be exciting as always and at 7500 yards it’s sure to bring its usual tough challenge to the world’s top players. I’m looking forward to watching Sky’s coverage especially on the range in the run up to the event. I love to watch the players go through their practice routines and listen to the commentary analysing their swings. It’s always great to see how many different techniques are on show....There’s more than one way to skin a cat!!
My top picks are as follows: To Win - Justin Rose Guaranteed Top 10 - Brooks Koepka Outside Bet - Francesco Molinari Derek’s picks are as follows: To Win - Jordan Speith Guaranteed Top 10 - Tommy Fleetwood Outside Bet - Mark Leishman As if the US Open wasn’t enough to get us excited, but the World Cup also kicks off on Thursday with the hosts Russia vs Saudi Arabia. The clubhouse will have all the action available for our members and guests to come along and enjoy from the comfort of the bar. Just remember that every drink you have also helps your golf club and goes towards improving our facilities and service offering to the membership. So if your other half asks why your drinking so much you can just say that you’re doing your bit to support your club!! (Haha) A couple of matches to watch out for: June 15th - Portugal vs Spain June 18th - Tunisia vs England If all this TV Sports coverage wasn’t enough, we have also had a busy week at the club with the Ladies and Senior Club Championships underway as we speak. This weekend also sees the gents Club Championships rounds 1 & 2 played over the Old Course while the New Course hosts the Summer Stableford. Good Luck to everyone playing this week and over the weekend and enjoy an action packed weekend of sport!

Discontinuance of Play; Resumption of Play
Robert and Stuart playing in the medal were approaching the green at the 3rd OLD when the heavens opened and they hurriedly putted out and headed for the shelter at the 4th tee. Bill and Mike were searching for a ball left of the green but after 4 minutes Bill abandoned his search and played his provisional ball. By this time Graham and Ian had putted out at the 3rd and went over to stand on the 4th Tee. Graham queried why Robert and Stuart were breaking Rule 6-8 by sheltering from the elements. What did Robert have to say? Robert explained that it is not against the rules to shelter, because they were unable to play as Bill and Mike had not left the green. But they MUST leave the shelter and resume play as soon as Bill and Mike leave the green.

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: the key to unlocking lower scores lies in improving your short game. Having the correct technique is one part of the journey to achieving this. The other is making sure your wedges are the correct grind and bounce for your swing, as well as having a set of wedges that are evenly gapped to cater for any distance. |
| Poorly gapped wedge system |

|
50% of you are like the first graphic If you’re working hard to get your handicap down to single figures, it really will pay off to dedicate more of your practice time to your short game and the shots you need to improve in the scoring zone. As you can see with the graphics above, the wrong wedge set-up can lead to an awkward 35-yard gap and more difficult half shots, which is why we always recommend a gapping session or fitting.
With Mizuno you have plenty of options, including this popular S18 wedge, which comes in 18 different lofts between 45° and 62°. It means whether you’re looking for a two, three or four wedge set-up in your bag, we can get your yardages gapped perfectly. |
