Greetings from John Murray Moray Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another exciting edition of the Moray Pro Shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up to date with all the latest news and gossip from within the walls of MGC. |
Xact Scottish Boys & Girls Amateur Championships The courses were taken over by around 180 boys and girls and their parents on Monday and Tuesday as we hosted 36 holes of stroke play in the Xact Scottish Boys & Girls Amateur Championship. There was some fantastic scoring with Aidan O’Hagan shooting 69 (old), 67 (New) to lead the boys qualifiers while Hannah Darling shot a 67 (New), 70 (Old) for a -9 total of 137.....Impressive Stuff!
|
Moray’s Lewis Bryce Maynard shot rounds of 72, 72 for a total of 144 to qualify in 9th position. It’s great to see the sun continue to shine and it all helps to showcase our great course here to competitors and parents alike. |
It’s No Smoking Matter!! I have had a few members mention to me recently that there are a large number of cigarette butts disposed around the golf course We have had a number of very serious gorse fires, sadly many of them started deliberately, but increasingly people are doing things like dropping cigarettes and leaving disused, still burning barbecues, on the beaches etc. The fires at Hopeman GC have had a devastating effect on the course and it will take a long time to regenerate. It is a very sad sight and it isn’t something any of us would want to happen to our home courses here at Moray GC. Therefore if you’re a smoker then please be extremely careful when disposing of used cigarette butts as it really wouldn’t take much of a spark to set off a fire that could easily wipe out both courses. Thank you kindly!!

The past few months have seen us talk a lot about the importance of using clubs that are suited to your game because, ultimately, they’re going to give you the most help when out on the course. One piece of equipment we haven’t touched on yet, which needs just as much attention, is your putter. |
How do you narrow down the options? If you come by the shop to buy a new putter, you’ll be faced with an array of styles. From different head shapes and alignment guides, to various lengths and grip types. So how do you know which one will help you hole more putts? There are some trends you can look to. Larger mallet putters like this TaylorMade Spider Tour Red tend to suit golfers with straighter putting arcs, while they are also a little more stable to help with shorter putts. In comparison, blades like this TaylorMade Black Copper Collection Soto can usually help those of you with more of an arcing stroke, while some players also prefer the feel a blade offers. Of course, the most sensible thing to do is come to us once you have a shortlist and we can advise you on which model will best suit your stroke type and take you through a full custom fitting. Just imagine how many shots you could drop by holing more putts.
