Ladies Open Championship England's Georgia Hall won her first major title with a two-shot victory at the Women's British Open at Royal Lytham and St Annes. The 22-year-old is only the third British winner since the event became a major championship in 2001. Trailing Pornanong Phatlum by a shot overnight, Hall moved clear of the Thai with two holes remaining, and held her nerve to secure victory. Hall finished on 17 under, having picked up five shots on the final day. The 22-year-old from Bournemouth becomes just the third British winner of the event since it became a major in 2001, following Karen Stupples in 2004 and Catriona Matthew, in 2009.

Abercrombie Cup Congratulations to Moray’s scratch team as they made it through to the Abercrombie Cup Final with a convincing 12.5-3.5 victory against Duff House Royal Golf Club. Moray managed to secure a 5-3 advantage after the first leg and the whole team brought their A game as they went unbeaten over the Old Course, eventually winning 7.5-0.5 to make it through to the final where they will defend the trophy. Good Luck Gents!

Moray & Nairn Handicap League Match Report: This was viewed by many of our players as a very stiff match on paper. All team members put in a sterling performance to gain our win with no home players being beaten. A thoroughly deserved victory, with several outstanding performances. There were some big wins but one match that does stand out was between Richard Denning v Alan Chow. After 6 holes Alan Chow of Nairn was 1 under gross and 5 up. Richard Denning fought hard and managed to win his match on the 18th.
Well done to all.

This now only leaves Super Sunday at Elgin on 26th August where we will be pitched against Nairn Dunbar which will determine this year’s league winners. Good Luck Gents! Here’s hoping you can win the final match and claim the trophy this year after narrowly missing out at Hopeman last year. |
US Masters Texas Scramble
We have a US Masters Texas Scramble on the Old Course on Sunday 19th August in conjunction with Golf in Scotland.
The cost is £10 for members and £20 for visitors and the winners will go through to the final at Blairgowrie on the 30th September. The winners of the final event will attend next year’s Masters Event in a trip of a lifetime. Click here for further information.

John Murray Junior Open We hosted the first John Murray Junior Open on Monday with a reasonable turnout of 34 golfers. A note to self is to try and avoid Beladrum Weekend next year as many of them seemed to be lacking sleep after a busy weekend.
|
However a windy Old Course soon woke them all up as they faced some testing conditions. Unfortunately all the podium places were taken up by Nairn & Nairn Dunbar members as follows: Scratch 75 - William Nicol (Nairn Dunbar) 75 - Steven Pears (Nairn) Handicap 65 - Ross Donachie (Nairn) 68 - Declan Fraser (Nairn Dunbar)

When tour pros are playing in big events, like the PGA Championship this week, they’ll always have relatively new wedges in their bag to maximise their spin, because worn wedges mean less control.
|
| Why do grooves matter? The grooves are the sole contact point between your ball and the club, imparting backspin to help lift the ball into the air. R&D testing has revealed that after 125 rounds, wedges spin 2,000rpm less than wedges with new grooves and consequently roll 14 feet further on landing - which is huge. What causes wear? All grooves will wear slowly over time due to a number of factors, including gradual wear from play, but golf's equipment manufacturers work hard to limit this. |
| Need to upgrade? Grooves are particularly important on wedges, where pinpoint control is crucial. If yours are looking worn like on the first image above, why not consider the TaylorMade Milled Grind wedge (above), which has ZTP grooves. This design sees grooves with steeper side walls sit closer together, allowing an additional groove to be added to produce more spin than on previous models. Advanced surface milling techniques also ensure precise, consistent performance from wedge to wedge. |
