“The Miracle at Moray” Last Saturday, we hosted our final event of the summer season, the Capro Cup!! Despite a chilly start to the day we were blessed with glorious sunshine during the days play. Having won the previous two years, I was riding high on confidence and after the Professionals team won the first 4 matches of the morning four balls, it looked like a repeat was already on the cards. However a 4/3 win for Chris Farrell and Calvin Moors was followed by a last hole win by ‘’Captain Ken’’ and Darren Gee to make it to lunchtime with only a 2 point deficit at 4-2. As the afternoon singles matches made their way out onto the course, the wind dropped and the t-shirts came out. As I followed the groups around the course to keep them refreshed and update the scores things were moving back in favor of a comfortable win for the Pro’s Team as the projected scores half way through the afternoon were suggesting an 11-7 victory. However.....Captain Ken’s morning motivational speech must have struck a chord as his team began to mount their comeback! A few putts started to roll in for Captain Ken’s Team. A couple of matches were flipped from 1 down to 1 up and Gary Woods recovered from 3 down to win on the last to suddenly make things look that little bit closer. Chris Farrell and Ken Lindsay made it 2 points from 2 matches in matches 9 & 10 and suddenly the match was tied at 8-8 with the last 2 matches left on the course. The light was now fading quickly and as we made our way down to the green it became apparent that once again the Matches had been turned around over the last 6 holes as Calvin Moors secured his 2nd point as he beat George Sutherland 3/2 and Darren Gee secured the all-important 1/2 point that was needed in the last match to secure a dramatic victory for the Captain’s Team.... “The Miracle at Moray!” Thanks to everyone who made it a hugely successful day and I hope everyone that played on the day had as much fun as I did. ‘’Just wanted to thank you again for putting on such a great event. It was a fantastic day, golf played in Great Spirit, competitive but equally fun too. I thoroughly enjoyed the day & drinks at night and can only reinforce what was said many times during the day, that we all had a great time and really appreciated all your hard work and efforts putting this together’’ ‘’Once again, thanks for what was, and always is, a wonderful day. Very much hoping we can encourage more golfers to enter next year to make it bigger and better’’ We will be making a big push to get more of you signed up for the Capro Cup qualifying race in April which takes the form of 8 qualifying events over the season. It only costs £5 to join the race in April and then an additional £1 for each qualifying event you play in over the season. This money just goes towards covering the cost of running the event including your team outfits and keeping you all fed and watered on the big day. If anyone knows of any potential sponsors who might be interested in supporting the event in 2019 then please get in touch (click here). I look forward to seeing more of you sign up to the event in spring 2019.
