Saturday was just as busy as we hosted the North Scottish Alliance Championship Final over the Old Course. Retired Inverness Golf Club professional Alistair Thompson, now 70, showed that age is but a number when he captured the North Scottish Alliance Championship. On a very windy day, it was expected to see some of the younger players names at the top of the leaderboard, however it was senior statesman Thomson who proved he still had game with an impressive score of 73 (37-36) to tie the leading scratch score from the field of 100 with the young Inverness assistant professional, David Grindell, and local amateur Darren Pitchforth. Into a playoff and after all three players made par at the 1st playoff hole it was Thomson who rolled in a 20ft birdie putt at the last to lift the Sir Hugh Mackenzie Trophy for a second time, his last win 32 years ago in 1987! Leading scratch scores: 73 A P Thomson (Pro)(Inverness), D Pitchforth (Moray), D Grindell (Pro)(Inverness); 74 J Shaw (Boat of Garten); 75 A J Duncan (Pro)(Elgin), J Keith (Inverness); 76 J Wright (Forres), D Joel (Inverness), M McAllan (Pro)(Elgin); 77 K Godsman (Moray), G H Hay (Boat of Garten), M Wilson (Forres); 78 M Ross (Fortrose & Rosemarkie); 79 I Murray (Boat of Garten); 80 A W Mair (Moray), N McPhie (Inverness), R H Stewart (Torvean), T bell (Pro)(Nairn Dunbar); While all this excitement was going on out on the course, I was stuck upstairs as we held our Clubhouse Clearance Sale between 10am-4pm. We were very busy especially during the first couple of hours and I hope you all managed to grab a bargain!!. We will be setting up a small SALE RAIL in the shop with our best leftover deals for those of you who failed to make it on the day! |
