Latest Update
Well... summer certainly didn’t last long... Here’s hoping the weather gods are saving the best summer weather until Moray Open Week! As we move into July it’s great to see so much golf on show in the UK, with the Irish Open, Scottish Open, Open Championship and finally The Moray Open. We now have our final Major Sweepstake of the season up and running in the Pro Shop ahead of the Open Championship at Royal Portrush. The cost is £3 per player or £10 for 4 players and the players will be drawn at random once the tee sheet has been finalised a couple of days before the opening tee shots on day 1. The top 3 places will receive shop vouchers (£140, £80, £50) while we will pay out a sleeve of Titleist Pro V1 for the best and worst scores on each of the 4 days and also for the leading amateur. Who do you think will be crowned the Open Champion 2019? Here are our predictions:
John's Winner - Tiger Woods, Outside Bet - Eddie Pepperell Derek's Winner - Brooks Koepka, Outside Bet - Shane Lowry Alan's Winner - Rory McIlroy, Outside Bet - Matthew Fitzpatrick Michael's Winner - Dustin Johnston, Outside Bet - Mark Leishman

Abercrombie Cup
Moray suffered a first-round defeat to local rivals Elgin Golf Club in their latest Abercrombie Cup match. Elgin fielded a strong side and managed to sneak a victory on the Old Course to take a 4.5 - 3.5 lead into the return leg at Elgin next Saturday. Here’s hoping the team can turn the match around and progress to the next round.

Moray Handicap League Congratulations to the Moray Team who won their recent match against Forres in comfortable style with a 7.5 - .5 victory in testing conditions. The team made the home advantage count over the Old Course as gusting winds which made it difficult for all players on the day. This was a must win after losing their first match away from home.
Thanks to everyone who managed to support the team on the day and a special thanks to one of Moray’s junior members, Caiol Provan for stepping in at the last minute and securing a vital point! A big shout to Kevin and his green staff for having the course in great condition on the day James Stephen (Captain)

Moray Members Flying The Flag Congratulations to Graham Murray who recently finished in a tie for 8th place at the Scottish Senior Men’s Open Championships at Luffness New Golf Club Graham narrowly made the cut by a single shot and when he finished his final round was 10 shots back. However, his final round 71 in some horrendous conditions was the best of the day. At the end of the day, Graham, was only 3 shots behind the eventual winner, Graham Bell who finished with a 75 and eventually won the trophy after a 3 man playoff. Congratulations also go to Jeff Wright who recently played in the British Amateur Championships and also made it through to final Open Qualifying. Unfortunately, Jeff didn’t play quite as well as he had hoped. However playing in both events is an achievement in itself and hopefully gives Jeff a taste for the big events. Finally well done to Ellie Docherty who played in the Scottish Women’s Amateur Championships at Kilmarnock Barrasie. Ellie made it through to the semi-finals of the Clark Rosebowl Matchplay and narrowly lost out to Corrine Taylor in a fantastic match which went into extra holes where Ellie was eventually beaten at the 22nd hole. Congratulations to you all and it’s great to see Moray members representing the club at National events.

TaylorMade Fitting Day Thanks to everyone who came along to our TaylorMade Fitting day on Tuesday. Despite some windy, cold weather, we were able to stay away from the elements using the new outdoor bays which was pleasing to everyone on the day!
It was great to see a busy event as it always helps us to get extra events over the course of the year. |
|
We are also going to have TaylorMade's demo spider putters available to trial during the week of the Moray Open and we will be holding a putting competition and demo event on Thursday 25th July from 4pm onwards. |
Putting Things Right Sometimes, it's the most obvious things that get overlooked. When it comes to golf, the club most used in a round is a putter so surely it's the part of the game that deserves most attention? We know this isn't a reality for many, but a combination of working hard on your stroke and having a putter that is suited to your stroke type will certainly improve your chances on the greens - two things that this promotion is all about. |

Stylish. Smart. Sophisticated. |
With the golfing season now in full flow, we hope you’re proud to say you’re a member of the club and this fantastic course. It’s for this reason that we have a bunch of crested items in the pro shop, so why not come in for a browse next time you’re at the club? |

A classic piece of golfing attire is the club crested shirt, which is something we're able to offer you thanks to our friends at Glenmuir. They've been creating stylish golf clothing since 1891 and specialise in the art of cresting; so much so that the European Ryder Cup team used them for every event between 1987 and 2014. Well, their current range is an excellent combination of traditional designs with subtle detailing for that added bit of flair - like the hexagonal print detail on the Haddington's chest (fuchsia polo here). So, if you're interested, be sure to grab yourself a piece of Scottish excellence before you next head out onto the course.
