Ladies Scottish Open
Korea’s Mi Jung Hur captured her third LPGA Tour career title, a decade after her first win, with a four-shot victory after a final round 66 to finish at 20-under-par at the 2019 Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open.
The Renaissance Club in the Lothian’s held the event after a successful men’s Scottish Open debut a number of weeks earlier.
Holding a slender one-shot lead with three to go, Hur birdied the 16th and closed with a grandstand finish at the 18th, hitting a 9 iron to 5ft before calmly rolling home for victory and a winners’ cheque of $225,000.
Scotland’s Carly Booth put her invite to great use as she picked up the Douglas Lowe Memorial Trophy, given to the highest place Scot. She finished in T9 at 10-under-par after a closing round of 71. The in-form Scot went as many as 50 holes without a bogey from the middle of her second round to the 16th of round four.
The Scottish Open was also the last qualifying event for the Solheim Cup which takes place at Gleneagles between the 9th-15th September.
The final automatic slots were decided after the event and a press conference at 2pm on Monday saw Captain Catriona Matthew select her wilds card picks to finalise the team.
The eight automatic qualifiers were – Anne Van Dam, Charley Hull, Georgia Hall, Carlota Ciganda, Caroline Hedwall, Azahara Munoz, Caroline Masson and Anna Nordqvist. Norway’s Suzann Pettersen has been handed a Solheim Cup wild card, despite having played just two events since November 2017. The 38-year-old will make her ninth appearance in the biennial event at Gleneagles next month, having originally been appointed one of European captain Catriona Matthew’s vice-captains. The two-time Major winner took time off in 2018 to have a baby and only returned to action last month, partnering Matthew in the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational in Michigan, where the pair missed the cut.
Matthew also gave wild cards to France’s Celine Boutier and the English duo of Bronte Law and Jodi Ewart Shadoff to complete the 12-strong team which will try to avoid a third straight defeat to the United States.
Pettersen said: “I was honoured to be a vice-captain but I would much rather play. It’s been a different role for me the last two years. My life has changed a lot, for the better, but I’ve missed golf and am very happy to be back in competition. I’m delighted I got the thumbs up from Beany (Matthew) that she wanted me on the team. It’s a massive honour for me to be here and I can’t wait, this is what I love. I feel like I was born for this.”
Only time will tell whether Pettersen’s experience will be the right choice for the team!

Felicity Cup
Our Junior Scratch Team made the journey through to Cruden Bay on Saturday for their first leg match in the semi-finals of the Felicity Cup. Despite many of the team playing the course for the first time, they did the club proud and after some close matches eventually lost the match 4.5-3.5.
The team got off to a flyer and many of the matches were up after the first 7 holes. However, the home advantage eventually started to show as the home team pulled things back and managed a narrow win going into the second leg at Moray.

Good luck to the boys in the second leg and here’s hoping they can turn the match around and reach the final. |
