Northern Counties Cup Moray produced another great team performance as they made it through to the final of the foursomes format, Northern Counties Cup held at Nairn Golf Club. Unfortunately, the Moray 1 pairings of Malcolm L Macleman & Graham Murray and Kevin Thomson & Jordan Edwards were narrowly beaten in the final match against Nairn Golf Club by 2 holes. That was the 2nd final in a row that Moray has lost after the Moray 2 side were beaten in the final against Forres GC in 2018.
However, the team have done fantastically well recently winning the Abercrombie Cup final and now a narrow defeat in the Northern Counties Cup. A great effort to everyone involved in the team throughout 2019. |
Scottish Junior Team Championships Our junior team played in the Scottish Junior Team Championships Qualifier at Strathlene Golf Club last Saturday. Unfortunately, most of our winning Felicity Cup side were unavailable. However, it was great to get some new faces playing for the team and they managed to finish in 3rd place which was still a great effort. |
Here come the girls Congratulations to Isla McCulloch who won the girls open at Royal Dornoch’s Struie course with 38pts. Isla has had a great season, reducing her handicap from 23 to 17 and added this trophy to her win in the St Andrew Girls Open earlier in the summer. Well Done Isla!! Country member Iona Reid finished in 2nd place on 31pts. We recently managed to get Iona the opportunity to play in the Am-Am at the Solheim Cup on the Thursday. She had a great time and loved the experience. Here’s a couple of snaps from her experience! |

PGA Championships at Wentworth Danny Willet birdied the last 2 holes to eventually pip Jon Rahm by 3 shots and collect his biggest win since his Masters win in 2016. Willett fell all the way to No. 462 in the world (where he was as recently as May 2018) but battled all the way back to No. 31 with this win at Wentworth. Willett was catapulted into golf's higher echelons when he took advantage of Jordan Spieth's spectacular collapse to pick up the Green Jacket at Augusta three years ago, but from the high point of that April afternoon in Georgia, Willett's game nosedived. After this event last year, he was 462nd in the world. In a bid to get back to the top, he changed everything - his caddie, his coach, his management company, his home - and there were signs that he was turning the corner when he won the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai last November. Willet ecstatic at his win seems to have got his love for the sport back again as he said, ‘But for me, when the golf was real bad and I didn't really fancy playing it, to be able to then come down the stretch today and enjoy it, it's something that's a really beautiful thing to be able to do because at the end of the day when I was 10 that's what I took golf up for because I enjoyed it and I wanted to get better.’ England’s Ross Fisher picked up a BMW i8 worth £130,000 when he made an albatross 2 at the par 5 18th hole at Wentworth. What a great prize although I’m not sure it’s the most practical car for a golfer!!

I had the pleasure of borrowing one of these for my friend's wedding day earlier this year and it was an amazing piece of kit. However, there is literally no room in the boot. I was only able to squeeze a small box of buttonholes in to take to the church. Fisher certainly won’t get his clubs in the boot!! |
This week on tour This week the European Tour hosts the Dunhill Cup which is played over Carnoustie, Kingsbarns and St Andrews Old Course. Lucas Bjerregaard is hopeful that a return to a happy hunting ground can kickstart his season as he launches the defence of his title at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Open Champion Shane Lowry is confident he can claim a links double as he tees it up at this week's Alfred Dunhill Links Championship too. With a Rolex Series victory in Abu Dhabi to go with his Major Championship triumph this season, Lowry arrives in Scotland full of confidence and eager to claim a third win of the 2019 Race to Dubai. So who’s your money on? I think it’s just a matter of time before Robert McIntyre makes the breakthrough with three second-place finishes already this season. I fancy him to take full advantage of playing on 3 true links courses.

Autumn Winter Stock Arriving We have some new stock arriving daily and have some great new winter layering pieces available from Under Armour, Galvin Green, Adidas, Glenmuir and Sunderland. We also have some new ladies clothing in stock from Sunderland and Glenmuir. My personal favourite is the Sunderland Lined Sweater available in a range of colours for both men and women. These can be plain or crested with the Moray GC logo and both feature a bionic finish for water and soil repellency and a stretched lining to help keep you warm and stop the winter winds from getting through to your body.

Johnston riding his luck!! Member Davie Johnston is feeling pretty lucky right now. Last weekend he chose number 54 on our pro shop draw to win a dozen balls and at the same time won himself a choice of one of the following prizes (Titleist Utility, Bushnell Tour V4, Spider X Putter, Galvin Jacket, TM Milled Grind Wedges) as he also had number 54 on our facebook bonus ball draw.
This was our 2nd pro shop draw for a dozen balls and guess who won the first one? Yes, that was also Davie Johnston.........I think he should rush out and get his lotto numbers!! |
|
We are running a weekly bonus ball draw in the shop which costs £1 per square. There are a total of 59 squares available and one lucky winner gets a free dozen balls of their choice, if their chosen number is picked as the bonus ball in the lotto draw. |
New Demo Equipment in The Performance Centre We have recently taken delivery of our TaylorMade P790 UDI and the new Titleist U500 and U510 Utility Irons which are perfect for a back up club from the tee especially on the windy days down on the links. The P790 and Titleist U500 have a slimmer top line while the U510 has a thicker top edge and is certainly more forgiving. The U510 is also joined in this area by TaylorMade’s GAPR Lo and the PING Crossover. So if this is an area of your game you’d like to look into we certainly have plenty of demo options available to trial.

Without further ado, let us introduce TaylorMade’s scintillating Milled Grind 2 wedge and look at why it's such a good option to be putting in the scoring part of your bag. |
| TaylorMade Milled Grind 2 wedges |
|
Now this wedge is quite unique. It's all to do with Raw Face Technology, which increases spin and feel compared with the original Milled Grind. Not only that but whilst the face rusts over time, the rest of the head will maintain its sleek finish. |
They look stunning, they perform superbly and there are plenty of options available from a loft, grind and finish perspective. All that's left to do now is to come and try them out yourself the next time you're down the club. |
