Junior Tour
Last week Derek and I took a group of our junior members on an end of season golf trip to Castle Stuart and Royal Dornoch.
I’m delighted to say that the weather was stunning on our first day at Castle Stuart and the course was still in great condition. Around half of the juniors had never played the course before and so it was a great experience for them. The following day “Chauffeur Murray” took control of the 17 seater minibus and thankfully managed to get us to Royal Dornoch without any issues for Day 2 of our junior trip. Despite the forecast looking poor for the afternoon, we battled on and after a few brief showers early on, the rain stopped, the wind dropped and we had ideal golfing conditions for the majority of our round. |
Once again this was a new course for most of the juniors and once again it didn’t disappoint. It’s been a few years now since I had played here too and so it was great to return for a game and see the changes that they have made since I last played the course around 7 years ago. The new 7th hole looks like it’s going to be fantastic with the fairway running along the cliff edge with some great views out to sea and over the rest of the course, and an infinity green complex which again looks great from the fairway. I’ll certainly look forward to playing the new hole when it officially opens next year!
We were certainly looked after by the staff at both Castle Stuart and Royal Dornoch and so a big thanks to them both for helping make the trip a huge success. Everyone seemed to have a great couple of days and we are hoping to make this a regular event in the diary with us already talking about possible venues for next year.

Winter Cup
The Winter Cup will kick off shortly with the first weeks play taking place on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd November on the New Course. In fact, the competition will visit the New Course for the first 4 weekends as in ties in with the closure of the Old Course during November.
Most of the information is similar to previous years with the exception of 1 main point:
1) Balls must be played from fairway mats when between red lines. There is NO option to take the ball to the side. If your ball is out with the red lines then the ball must be played as it lies.

Old Course Closure
As previously mentioned the Old Course will be closed for play from Friday 1st November and will reopen for play on Saturday 30th November. There should be strictly no play on the course during this time and all tee markers and flags will be removed from the course while the closure is in place.

Stepping Into The Professional Game
Both Moray members Kyle Godsman and Jeff Wright have both recently made the step up to the professional golfing ranks. They will be well known to many of you already, they are both good friends and have battled against each other in a number of Moray Open finals in recent years.
|
Jeff will be turning his attention to professional golf in 2020 following a successful trip to Germany for the Pro Golf Tour qualifying school. Jeff finished inside the Top 20 positions earning him full playing rights for the 2020 season. The Pro Golf Tour is a German PGA run tour with more than 20 tournaments across 7 countries with competitors coming from over 25 different countries. Jeff hopes to use this tour as a stepping stone towards the end goal of eventually making it on the main European Tour.
Kyle has been working through at Inverness Golf Centre during the last year and finally decided to enrol in the PGA training programme which will see him undertake 3 years of studying through the PGA National Training Academy which is based at the Belfry in Birmingham while continuing to work in his current position. |
|
We would like to wish both Jeff and Kyle, the very best of luck in their new chosen paths and look forward to monitoring their progress in the coming months and years ahead. |
