Greetings from John Murray Moray Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional
I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another edition of the Moray pro shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up to date with all the latest news and gossip from within the walls of MGC. |
Winter is here... It’s nice to be back to work after a couple of week's holiday (ok I’m lying). Hopefully everything ran smoothly while I was away and Derek and Alan looked after you all in my absence? It’s certainly been a shock to the system with the weather and by all accounts we are in for a cold winter ahead of us! However, fear not as we have a shop full of golfing accessories to help keep you warm over the coming months including the usual mitts, beanies, snoods and hand warmers. However we have just taken delivery of our latest gadget... Motocaddy’s new “Hot Mitts”. These mitts feature an innovative electric heat layer to provide maximum comfort in cold conditions, whilst an ergonomic fitting and design ensure that you're still able to have complete control of your trolley. |
These “Hot Mitts” have three heat settings and can be plugged straight into any Motocaddy M Series electric trolley featuring a USB charging port. Alternatively these are also compatible with the Motocaddy Power Bank (sold separately). The new mitts are £44.99 and we only have two pairs available pre-Christmas so be quick before they are all gone!

Golf Yoga Classes in 2020 The New Year brings us goals, and when it comes to golf there is no greater goal than lowering your handicap. In the off season we see a drastic decrease in the playing of golf for many reasons, as a result the body tends to tighten and become more restrictive which negatively impacts the golf swing. This invariably results in the slow frustrating process of trying to get back into golf in the spring time, which is why I would like to introduce you to golf yoga. Yoga is not only about flexibility, but ultimately about high levels of stability, internal strength, muscle endurance and balance - which are all essential elements for an improved golf swing. Heather Foley (Heather's Holistic Approach), is a physiotherapist who specialises in golf, and is Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Certified, and a qualified yoga teacher. Following on from very successful golf yoga classes at Miltonduff Village Hall, and the Royal British Legion, Nairn we have managed to get Heather to start a new class on a Monday evening at 6:00pm from Monday 6th January in the Duffus Village Hall. There are only 15 places available and Moray GC members are being given fist chance to book a place before these sessions are advertised to the general public over the weekend.
|
I have already booked myself up for the New Year and hope to maybe see a few more friendly faces from the golf club come along to try out something new. No prior yoga experience is required, just enthusiasm to better your golf game. Each participant will get a 10 minute screening relative to TPI both before the first and after the final session, which will show the gains made over the block period. Advanced booking and payment of £60 for a six week block is required to secure your booking. If interested please contact Heather directly on 07887351333 or email fraoch333@gmail.com.

Small Business Saturday This coming Saturday 6th December is also known as Small Business Saturday which encourages everyone to try to support your local small businesses rather than line the multi-national companies pockets. Amazons founder and CEO, Jeff Bezos is now the richest man on the planet with a nett worth of around $150 billion. So please think about spending local this Saturday. Not only does this help keep local businesses open, but puts your money into the local economy which can only be a good thing for Lossiemouth and the surrounding area.

|
Do you have an American Express Credit Card? American Express are helping to encourage spending in local businesses between Friday 6th December and Sunday 22nd December. Simply spend over £10 and American Express will give you £5 back (in up to 10 different stores). #ShopSmallUK. #SmallBusinessSaturday.

Moray Golf Club and The Great War A limited edition of a book celebrating the lives of those members who feature on the club's memorial plaque is being printed at the moment and will be available in early December. This book is based on extensive research from various resources and includes contemporary minutes, background information on each member named on the plaque as well as information on Alexander and George Eric Edwards (commemorated on the sundial above the 18th green). It provides insights into the club's thoughts at the time (a time when being on the front line was not considered sufficient reason for remitting of fees) but primarily is an attempt to make sure that those who made the supreme sacrifice are not forgotten. A foreword is provided by Lieutenant General Sir Alistair Irwin, KCB CBE great grandson of former Captain John Fleetwood Cumming and great nephew of Lewis Robertson Cumming (the first casualty). If you would like to reserve a copy either get in touch with John Ellwood at johnhiltonellwood@outlook.com or leave your name at the bar in the club. The initial price is £12. |

We've got a little task for you. Next time you're down the club on a busy day, have a look around and count how many golfers are using an electric trolley compared to those that aren't. We think the number might surprise you... |
Waterproofs. Mittens. Woolly hat. Golf at this time of the year requires the lot, which can make carrying your golf bag an absolute nightmare! However, utilising an electric trolley - like 66% of club golfers - allows you to pack your bag with everything you need and more without it weighing you down for 18 holes. One trolley we really like is the M-TECH from Motocaddy, which was released earlier this year and shows just how far electric trolleys have come.
Luxury polished chrome detailing, a super-lightweight design and an electronic parking brake are just three of its features that we love, but click the link below to view more.
