I will bring you further information as we get closer to the event which is going to be running from the 2nd - 5th June.
A long wait is over Elsewhere in the golfing world, Graeme McDowell rediscovered his form as he won the Saudi International after five and a half years out of the winners circle on the European Tour. McDowell (40) joined Lee Westwood in the over 40’s category to pick up wins in the Middle East in recent weeks to show that age is just a number! Sticking to the tour and Matt Fitzpatrick showed off an unusual chipping technique during the recent Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. Fitzpatrick and former world number 1 Vijay Singh have recently been experimenting with their short game grips and have both tried cack-handed chipping. People tend to think that tour professionals are immune to the same failings that most average golfers are faced with. It just goes to show that there is no right or wrong when it comes to playing golf, even at the highest level. It wasn’t that long ago that we saw the claw putting grip used in the Pro ranks and it was assumed that the culprit must be an emotional wreck on the putting green. However, nowadays it’s adopted by so many players purely for the reason that they feel it’s a more effective technique which allows them to hole more putts. Now I’m certainly not saying to go out and try chipping cack-handed if you're chipping well. However, don’t be afraid or embarrassed to try something different on the course if there’s a chance it might improve the outcome. If it’s good enough for one of the world’s best, it’s certainly good enough for you! |
