It’s been another very windy week down here at Moray Golf Club and none more so than on Saturday afternoon. The weather once again affected the Winter Cup as only 5 players braved the conditions.

We have decided to take the weather into our own hands and feel like we’ve found the perfect weather prediction tool to accurately tell us what we should expect on the course going forward!

We pressed on

We had our night golf event planned for the evening and after much deliberation, we decided to go ahead as planned. Despite getting drenched while setting up the course, the weather did improve slightly and allowed the 24 hardy souls to take to the 6 hole course.

Performance centre

Does new technology (clubs) actually work?

This week I received a set of Hogan Blades for regripping and it seemed like a great opportunity to put these up against some of this year’s new releases in the Performance Centre.

The irons in question were a set of Hogan Blades (around 20 years old) and so during a quiet spell in the studio I proceeded to hit around 5 shots with the 7 iron and then repeated this with 2 other irons, the TaylorMade P790 (2018) which I’m still currently using and the new TaylorMade SIM Max OS irons launched only a few weeks ago.

GCQuad data analysis

With the newer clubs, there was a huge difference in the ball speed leaving the clubface, (over 10 mph with no increase in my club speed) which certainly added some additional distance. The stronger lofts on these clubs were evident as I launched the ball around 3 degrees lower than my own irons, however, the weaker shafts in these irons would also play a part in this and is the reason for them going a little too far left for my liking.

However, an extra 25 yards carry with my own irons and an extra 36 yards total with the new TaylorMade SIM Max OS is certainly not to be sniffed at!

Envelope draw

We will be starting to sell tickets for the relaunched envelope draw which will be drawn once per month usually in conjunction with something in the entertainments calendar.

The first draw will take place on Saturday 14th March during the Chinese Buffet & Casino Night with the draw taking place at 9pm.

Here are a few pieces of info on the draw (full details will be emailed to members in due course)

Tickets on sale from the bar at £5 each
First Draw - £500 Jackpot
1 Draw per month
Members Only (Any Category)
Ticket Buyers must be 18+
Ticket buyers must select an envelope number between 1-20
There are 19 losing envelopes (£50 for the winner if they choose one of these)
1 Jackpot Envelope (£500 if winning ticket holder chooses this envelope)

If no jackpot winner...
Next months Jackpot increases until someone wins the big prize
The envelopes decrease every month until the jackpots won
If there are only 2 envelopes left (unlikely) the winning ticket holder (if present for the draw) will be given the option of opening their chosen envelope (£50 or Jackpot) or accepting half of the Jackpot prize.

Every month 50% of ticket sales will go into the jackpot while 50% will go towards a specific project within the club. The current project will be going towards installing a new on course toilet facility.
