Golf on Tour

Jon Rahm’s stint at the top of the rankings lasted just a single week. All eyes were on Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson to challenge the Spaniard for that top-of-the-world spot. But it was Justin Thomas, slipping under the radar, who reclaimed it with a win at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational.

If Thomas had gone under the radar beforehand, he certainly didn’t on Sunday. A combination of pink trousers and outstanding golf saw the 27-year-old steal the show, coming from four shots behind overnight leader Brendon Todd, he overtook the likes of Koepka and Rickie Fowler with a 5-under 65 at TPC Southwind.

Fitting Events

Our next confirmed fitting day is going to be with TaylorMade Golf on Friday 4th September between 12.00 - 4.00pm.

We will have the full SIM ranges available as well as some new toys on display including the new P770, P7-MB and P7-CB irons, a new SIM Driving Iron, Tiger Woods wedges and a new spider mini putter.

Costa Del Moray!

Last week I mentioned about some nice posts on social media about the courses and this week we had local drone photographer, Andy Innes along to take some professional images which we could use to promote Moray Golf Club to the wider golfing audience.

Thankfully we were blessed with a beautiful day and here's a couple of shots that were taken on the day.

USPGA Sweepstake

Bunkers

As I mentioned in my video blog it was disappointing during my game on Friday evening to see the lack of attempts made by some players when it came to raking bunkers after their shots. Many of them looked more like sandpits than bunkers!!

I understand that we have a lift and place policy in place, however surely basic golfing etiquette should mean making some effort to tidy up the bunker after you've hit your shot? Let's take pride in our course and let's all do our bit to help showcase our course.

If your struggling to manage using your feet or a club then why not consider purchasing one of our club rakes? These are only £8 and attach easily to any club in your bag and do a pretty good job. Ok that's my rant and retail plug over!!!

Club Fittings & Golf Lessons

We've been really busy over the last few weeks with fittings and lessons. We've had a huge demand so far which has been amazing to see and a big boost after losing 2 of our busiest months in April and May. Thanks for all your support and patience as we try to get you all booked in. However, I'm pleased to say we've now got our online booking system back up and running which is now the best way to book appointments.

Here's just a couple of screenshots from a recent lesson where we utilised our GCQuad Launch Monitor from Foresight Sports. The customer was finding they were struggling with their longer irons and would find they were blocking (straight right) or hooking these shots.

We were able to identify that the club path (top left) was coming a little too much from in to out and causing these poor shots to the right and making it difficult to hit consistent shots finishing on the target.  After a couple of basic tweaks (minimal change) the customer was able to visually see the improvements in their club path and shot direction.

Can Custom Fitting Make A Difference?

I'm often asked does custom fitting and new technology really make a difference.  Here's a recent club fitting where the customer was using some Titleist 735 CM irons from around 2008 (Iron1).

Pretty quickly we could see that the new technology in the irons was gaining him an extra 6-9 mph ball speed which equated to around 10-15 yards carry with a 7 iron.

The customer also wanted to control the flight as he always hit the ball very high and would struggle in the wind.  A combination of shaft and head type allowed us to reduce his backspin and launch angle and a tweak to the lie angle of the club also helped reduce how much curvature was on the ball.  

So longer, a better trajectory and straighter... What more could you want!!
