New Cart Bag Range

We received our new range of PING Stand and Cart bags this week which are great as ever. We are still waiting on some stock arriving due to shipping issues. We are already seeing a combination of Covid, Brexit, Suez Canal and incredibly busy golf courses throughout the UK having its knock-on effect on stock levels throughout the golf industry and it looks like it's going to continue like this for 2021!

However, we hope to give you a little video walk-around of our shop ahead of the reopening on 26th April in next weeks newsletter as well as a look inside our fitting studio ahead of its return to action on the same date. Exciting times ahead!

We have been busy calling everyone who joined our waiting list for club fittings and the first week is now fully booked. If you haven't been called with an appointment we will be continuing to call people to arrange suitable times over the next few days.

A new winner at Augusta

The Masters has a long, rich tradition of making history, and that was only furthered by Hideki Matsuyama becoming the first Japanese golfer to win a Major, finishing Sunday draped in a Green Jacket. A momentous achievement for the golfer and his home nation.

The list of big names to miss the +3 cut, including reigning champ Dustin Johnson and Grand Slam-chasing Rory McIlroy, tells you just how brutal Augusta National played over the first few days. Matsuyama found that brutality at the worst time, watching his lead cut from six with seven to play to a one-shot, nervy victory down the stretch. But he made it, and now his name is etched into the history books.

It was great to see Scotland's Bob Macintyre finish with a closing birdie 3 to finish on -2 for the week and grab himself a return to the Masters for 2022 after his birdie lifted him into a tie for 12th place. An amazing result at the best of times but even more so on his first visit to Augusta. Bob also had the most birdies out of the field during the week which must give him a huge boost in confidence as well as his bank balance!! Great to see!!

Competition news

The spring meeting is anything but!

The first Saturday competition, the Spring Meeting was anything but as the late finishers had to deal with a late deluge of snow.

Click here to check out a video sent in showing the conditions out on the course for the late players. Thankfully it didn't hand about for long!!

Despite the weather, we had a good entry of 143 players.

In the end, it was the battle of the Jamies, as Jamie Weeden pipped Jamie Edwards on a countback as both players finished on nett 68. Michael Caton (70) finished on his own in 3rd place with Scott Crawford, John Maclean and David Provan tied for 4th place on 72.

We currently have 156 booked in for this Saturday's competition which is great to see but I'm also aware that some members are struggling to get a time. Therefore if you can't make it on Saturday please give us as much notice as possible so that others can get a chance to plan for a game. As previously mentioned if anyone fails to show without prior notice then further action will be taken.

In order to try to ensure as many people can play as possible, we are going to open up the tee sheet (Saturday only) from 7am to give us a chance to book in another 9 players during the sought after AM slots.

Beyond the blade

It’s pretty hard to miss the difference between modern-day mallets and traditional blades, but there are aspects of both putter styles that are much less obvious but still really set them apart from models of the past.

We came across this Callaway video last week and loved it so wanted to share it with you. Mickelson has won the Masters three times and played in the tournament 29 times, so it's safe to say Lefty knows his way around Augusta National. In this short video, he discusses the key changes he made to his bag in order to play his best last week - it really is eye-opening!
