Night golf a fantastic success
We had a very successful first attempt at our Night Golf event. Thankfully the weather stayed dry for most of the night and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves out on the course. The 4 hole course took around 45-50 mins to complete for most teams of 4, and we saw a wide array of skill levels and golf shots being played on the night!!
I'm sure after playing, all participants would agree that it's certainly more challenging to hit the ball correctly in the dark, even if your balls are lit up!! However, some didn't seem to be phased by the challenge. Craig Smith won our individual prize with a score of 13 for the 4 holes which was rather impressive! Himself, Neil Down, Nathan Hubbard and Aaron Casey won the team honours on 28, just ahead of John Thomson, Marc Main, Joe Macleman and Michael Paige on 29.
These pictures were captured by Malcolm Slater from Slater Sports in Buckie. The camera used was the GoPro Hero 4 and is the world's most versatile camera. Thanks to him for coming along and recording the night!

Getting the most out of your game
Every golfer aims to get better and with new technology and some advice that can be achieved. Last week I took Andy Donegan to the range to test out some of the new drivers available on the market. Every shot was tracked with my GC2 launch monitor, giving me ball speed, distance, back and side spin, and direction.
With his current driver, Andy was launching the ball quite low, by adding some loft and giving him the PING G30 Driver we increased this slightly and saw some improvement. However what was evident from the launch monitor data was that we needed to make a couple of swing changes to maximise the benefit of the new club. I asked Andy to try and hit up on the ball, like you would on a top spin tennis shot. What this does is help create better launch conditions, but also reduce the back spin on the ball. On average Andy was gaining 28 yards, which on the golf course is about 2 clubs less for his next shot! To reduce the side spin, I asked Andy to swing out in front of him also, which helped minimise the side spin.
Here's a few kind words from Andy
''All the clubs provided an initial increase in distance but what was obvious from the launch monitor results, was that my swing was not allowing me to get the full benefit from any of the new clubs. With some pointers from John a few fine tweaks to my swing the results improved even more. The distance increased significantly, the spin reduced and the launch angle also improved allowing the ball to carry further and straighter.
In summary, yes the new clubs do improve the distance off the tee, they can reduce the impact of bad shots but they cannot improve your game completely. The new clubs in conjunction with the analysis of the launch monitor and some expert advice from John will start to provide the improvements to your game that we all strive to achieve''.

Donald was drawn to play in the Tantalus with a visitor. His drive at the 14th Old ended up a foot into the whins on the left of the fairway. Deliberating over how he was going to proceed Hugh said "You have no shot at all. If I were you I would deem it unplayable" Donald was uncomfortable with what Hugh had said. Why?
Hugh's suggestion could have influenced Donald in determining how he was going to play. Thus it constituted advice and Hugh was penalised 2 strokes under Rule 8-1
