I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another exciting edition of the Moray Pro Shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up to date with all the latest news and gossip from within the walls of MGC.
This week we are hosting one of the most prestigious amateur championships in Great Britain and Ireland. The Carrick Neill Scottish Open Stroke Play Championship is the pinnacle of the SGU's national titles.
Taking place this year over our very own Old Course at Moray GC, the Championship has attracted a stellar field from across the world, with players aiming to join an impressive list of past champions including victorious Ryder Cup captains
Bernard Gallacher and
Colin Montgomerie, as well as current European Tour stars
Stephen Gallacher and
Richie Ramsay.
The weather as usual this year isn't looking too favourable at present; however I'm sure it will be a great golfing spectacle regardless of the weather. I'm sure we will see some stars of the future on display with the entrant's handicaps varying between +1 and +5!!!
I'm delighted to say that we have some good local interest in the event with
Kyle Godsman, Jeff Wright, Malcolm L Macleman, Ryan Bain and
Jordan Milne all taking part in the competition. I'm sure you will all join me in wishing them all the best over the coming days!
Kay Vincent Qualifies
Congratulations to Kay Vincent who recently played in the Scottish Veteran Ladies Golf Association (Highland) Championships at Inverness GC. Kay made it through as only one of 4 scratch qualifiers and was beaten 3/2 in the semi final by the eventual winner Alison Bartlett from Royal Dornoch. Hopefully Kay can go all the way next year!

Playing in the Hon John, Phillip and Peter were all square at the 9th. Peter was nicely on the green 8ft from the hole. Phillip was 6 foot off the green on the right between the 2 bunkers and was contemplating putting his next shot. He noticed that on his line of play someone had not replaced their divot which was lying nearby. He asked Peter if it was permissible to replace the divot before putting? Did Peter agree?
No. Peter explained to Phillip that Rule 13-2 prohibits improving your line of play by eliminating an irregularity of surface.
