I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another exciting edition of the Moray Pro Shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up to date with all the latest news and gossip from within the walls of MGC.
Over the weekend as many of you will know we hosted one of amateur golf's most prestigious championships in the Carrick Neil Scottish Stroke Play Championship. This flagship event for the Scottish Golf Union not only attracts the best players in Great Britain and Ireland, but also players from the continent such as Spain, Germany, France, Switzerland but also international players from further afield such as America, Australia, South Africa and Saudi Arabia.
Conditions were tough for all 4 days, with the wind not relenting at all until Sunday morning for a brief spell. Unfortunately our local players didn't make the half way cut missing out by a couple shots. The eventual winner was
Marco Penge a 17 year old Englishman from Goodwood Golf Club who finished on an impressive total of 6 under par with rounds of 69, 69, 67 and 73. Winning by a shot from Scottish Internationalist
Graeme Robertson from Glenbervie.
The leading ranked player in the field, Australia's
Lucas Herbert ranked 20th in the world, shot a stunning course record 65 in a bogey free round on Sunday morning.
It was great to see such a prestigious event held at Moray Golf Club, every player I talked to spoke very highly of the course and also the club.
Kevin Thomson and the rest of the green staff deserve a huge congratulations for not only the work done this week, but also for work which has been done prior. Also
Steve Grant who behind the scenes put in some ridiculous hours, he could have probably pitched up and slept in the office over the 4 days! Also the bar and catering team who kept all the guys fed and watered. And last but by no means least, the volunteers who without your help over the 4 days this event wouldn't of been able to run as smooth as it did. It's great to see everyone pulling together for the benefit of the club.

Brian and Peter were playing the 13th in the Lady Gordon on a very wet day. Brian's ball was under a tree branch on the right of the fairway which interfered with his backswing. Before playing his next stroke he shakes the water off the branch to eliminate being distracted by it. Was Peter in agreement with Brian's actions?
No. In moving the branch, Brian removed water which could have distracted him and thereby improved the area of his intended swing in breach of Rule 13-2 incurring loss of hole penalty.
