Greetings from John Murray | Moray Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional | I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another exciting edition of the Moray Pro Shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up to date with all the latest news and gossip from within the walls of MGC.
It's been a busy week in the world of sport. Wimbledon once again hit our screens and Andy Murray kept our hopes going until he was beaten by an on song Roger Federer in the semi finals. However Federer couldn't quite maintain his form to win his 8th Wimbledon against Djokovic in another great final between the 2 titans. In the Ladies, Serena Williams made it 21 Major Championship wins and her 6th Wimbledon crown.
Many other sporting heroes turned out in force to watch the tennis on display....or tried to! Lewis Hamilton was refused entry to the final when he didn't quite adhere to the dress code for the Royal box and Miguel Angel Jimenez found the whole tennis thing rather boring when he decided to catch 40 winks during the tennis! However, regardless of the Sport, it's great to watch such athletes like Federer, Djokovic and Williams who seem to dominate their sports for such long periods of time.
It feels like a long time now since golf was dominated by Tiger Woods, however there is a new star who is already one of the World's best at just 21 years of age! Jordan Spieth continues his rise in the Professional ranks by winning the John Deere Classic last Sunday helped by a -9 round of 61 in his 3rd round and 3 birdies in the last 4 holes to make a playoff in the final round, which he would eventually win. Can he continue his rich vein of form and take his 3rd Major of the year at St Andrews? It's a huge ask and a totally different challenge to the other majors but I certainly wouldn't bet against him!
As usual we are running our Pro Shop sweepstake in the shop. If you bought a square click here to find out your players for the coming week.
Well it's sure to be a great week's golf at St Andrews regardless of what the weather throws at the players. My bet for the week is Louis Oosthuizen, who won here in 2010 and has been recovering from injury this year. However he may be able to pull on his positive memories from 2010 and win again. Who's your money on? Click here and give me your top 2 players. The first correct answer will win a dozen TaylorMade TP Golf Balls.
The Real Major of the Year!!
Next week the real major event of the year gets underway! The Moray Open 5 Day Championship! We have a mere 336 golfers taking to the course on Mon & Tues, all hoping to qualify for the match play stages of the event. However regardless of the qualifiers, there is plenty of golf events and non golf events available to keep everyone in high spirits!!
The Pro Shop is sponsoring the 4th Hole again and we will be running our usual 4th hole challenge. Bet £5 or £10 and if you hit the green, you will receive a voucher for the shop worth double your bet. If you miss the green, you will still get a voucher worth your stake. We must be mad!! It's a win win stake for everyone! There is only one condition, you must spend your voucher in the shop during Moray Open Week!
We will also have some special Moray Open Offers on for the week only so keep an eye out for these deals in the shop from this weekend.

Derek Breezes past 1st Year Exams
I'm pleased to say that Derek has done a great job in his first year as my PGA Assistant and passed all his exams with flying colours. I'm sure you will all congratulate Derek. He has been a great help to me over the last couple of years and has worked hard over the winter months on his PGA studies and has reaped the rewards for his efforts.
Derek is now glad to forget about studying over the rest of the summer and get out on the golf course! Derek has started to take some golf lessons to help lighten my workload and so if anyone is interested in having a lesson with Derek, feel free to pop into the shop and have a chat with him about your game.

In the Moray Open Alex and Mike were playing the New 4th.While over on the Old 9th Alan and Ryan were preparing to drive. As it happens both Ryan and Alex teed up at the same time and their tee shots collided in mid air above the 9th fairway. Alex's ball was deflected well right of the green. Ryan's ball could not be found. "What happens now" says Ryan?
Alan was able to tell Ryan that had his ball been found he would have been obliged to play it as it lies without penalty. Since it was not found he must proceed under Rule 27-1 Lost Ball. Alex plays his ball as it lies without penalty. |
