I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another exciting edition of the Moray Pro Shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up to date with all the latest news and gossip from within the walls of MGC.
The Moray Open
Well, it is certainly a strange feeling this week! Monday morning came and we wondered where everyone was!!
The Moray Open was another huge success and despite a couple of very windy days which made scoring tough for the competitors, everyone stayed dry for the majority of the week. We even had the sun shine down on us for the semi finals and final matches and the all important prizegiving.
Congratulations go to scratch winner Jordan Milne on taking the trophy with a 4/2 victory over Ryan Bain in a rematch of the 2013 final.
Jordan (pictured in black) got off to a quick start and was 4 up after four holes. The pair were then very closely matched for the remaining holes and eventually Jordan got revenge for his 2013 final loss to pick up the trophy.
It was an all Moray affair in the division one final with Alex England taking on Aaron Stewart. This match was very tight throughout the match. Alex managed to get 2-up with two to play, however a battling Aaron didn't give in and made a solid four at the last in front of the galleries to take the match down the first extra hole. However Alex (pictured in white)produced a great tee shot just short of the green and after a great first lag putt, tapped in for his birdie and victory at the 19th.
In the division two final, Moray GC member, Jim Spence (pictured in pink) took the honours with a 3&1 victory over former Moray member Craig Youngson. Craig now lives down under in Australia and was back visiting family and friends while playing in the Open. In another close match, Jim was three down after four holes, but dug deep to gradually pull the match back to one up through 15 holes. A couple of solid pars at 16 and 17 was good enough to lift the trophy.
There were a couple of noticeable shots which were recorded over the week. Steven Devine making an eagle two on the 14th of the Old Course (one of only two eagles all week).
I caught up with Steven in the 19th hole where I heard all about it!!
David K Campbell also made a hole-in-one on the 6th hole of the New Course in the consolation Stableford. Well Done Guys!
