Greetings from John Murray
Moray Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Greetings from your Friendly Pro Shop Team,

I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another exciting edition of the Moray Pro Shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up to date with all the latest news and gossip from within the walls of MGC.

Tiger Woods continued to show signs of a return to form with a top 20 finish on the PGA Tour. It must do his confidence the world of good and I wonder whether he can get back to competing at the top of the leader board by the end of the year?

Scotland faired well at the Madeira Open at the weekend with Scott Henry and Andrew MacArthur finishing in 2nd and 3rd places.

Paul Lawrie hosted his own matchplay event at Murcar Links last week. It's great to get another Scottish event on the European Tour Schedule, especially on a links course.

This week we host the Paul Lawrie Junior Jug over 54 holes on the Old Course. The under 18 event may well have some Scottish stars of the future on display and it's nice to host events such as this at Moray GC. Anyone wishing to play on Wednesday and Thursday can easily get a game on the New Course.

Rule of the week

Alistair and Ben were playing the 12th Old. Alistair's ball was in the bunker right side of the 12th green Old. Ben's ball was on the apron of the green between Alistair's ball and the hole. In splashing out of the bunker Alistair deposited sand on and in front of Ben's ball. Ben knew that sand and loose soil are loose impediments only on the green. As his ball was on the apron of the green he asked Alistair if he is entitled to relief? What was his reply?

Yes. Ben is entitled to the lie and line of play he had when his ball came to rest. Accordingly, in equity he is entitled to remove the sand deposited by Aistair's stroke and lift and clean his ball without penalty.
