I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another exciting edition of the Moray Pro Shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up to date with all the latest news and gossip from within the walls of MGC.
The final major of the golfing season has come and gone and it certainly didn't disappoint. My pick of the week Jason Day continued his amazing form in the big events and finally held out to win his first major championship with a 20 under par total to beat Jordan Spieth by 3 shots.
Day's stats spoke for themselves this week as he was 5th in driving distance but also 5th in driving accuracy….which is pretty impressive when you average 306.9 yards per drive!! He was also 2nd in greens hit in regulation at 76%. Put these three stats together and your looking at someone who is going to be pretty tough to beat!
Day picked up a cool $1.8 million for his victory and takes his season earnings over the $6 million mark!! Unfortunately I'm not any better off as I failed to back my own prediction at the bookies……and didn't bother with my lottery ticket either…..If only!!!!!
Jordan Spieth had another great week and made it 1st, 1st, 4th and 2nd in the majors this year and his only consolation after finishing in 2nd place on Sunday was that he claimed the world no.1 spot from Rory McIlroy.
McIlroy had a pretty good return to tournament play after injury, finishing in 17th position on -9 for the week. He was very humble on his facebook page posting:
"2 inevitable things happened today, Jason Day winning a major and Jordan Spieth getting to 1 in the world! Congrats guys!! Inspiring stuff!"
Matt Jones, leader after the 2nd round, had a very unusual lie during the 3rd round at Whistling Straits. He drove his ball into the hospitality stand and opted to play from the carpeted area around all the spectators.
Check out his shot by clicking here.
My second prediction last week was that either Kyle Godsman or Jeff Wright would go on to win shortly on the SGU circuit, and it only took one week as Kyle Godsman won the North East Open Amateur Championship at Cruden Bay over the weekend.
Kyle had rounds of 72, 66, 72, 72 for a +2 total of 282 to take a one shot victory and claim his first 72 hole SGU Order of Merit Tournament victory.
I'm sure you will all join me in congratulating Kyle on his victory and I'm now looking forward to seeing how both Kyle and Jeff get on this weekend in the David Blair Trophy over Moray Old course.

Billy's drive at the 2nd Old Course found the bunker on the right side of the fairway short of the ridge. His ball had just fallen into the bunker and was close to the left side giving Billy a very difficult stance with his left foot outside the bunker.
He had several attempts at taking and retaking his stance in an attempt to get a level stance with his right foot.
David was watching from the middle of the fairway and went over to observe what Billy was doing. Should Billy be concerned at David's observations?
A. Yes. David was about to penalise him 2 strokes for a breach of Rule 13-3 " A player is entitled to place his feet firmly in taking his stance, but he must not build a stance".
