The season has officially kicked off with the season opening match against Elgin last weekend. This weekend sees the Greensomes competition played over the Old Course on Saturday with late entries now through the Professionals shop. However the following weekend is when the season really kicks off for a lot of us as it's Masters Weekend!! This is when we all watch how it should be done, take to the golf course in our 1000's and quickly realise its just as hard as it's always been!!
Who is your money on? I have been running a competition on Facebook this last week which I would like to open up to everyone. Click here to give me your top 3 players in place order for the Masters, or click here to visit my facebook page. The first person to guess the 1-3rd places correctly will win a TaylorMade SLDR Hybrid club courtesy of yours truly!!
Masters Sweepstake
We have now sold out of our Masters Sweepstake squares ahead of the US Masters next week. We have carried out a random draw using the player list for next week and the square numbers on the sweepstake board, and now have your players ready to be viewed. Remember, even if you draw what you might think is a player with little chance of winning, you can still win prizes for best and worst rounds each day and this year also for leading amateur.

Scottish Universities
The Scottish Universities Championships returned to Moray this week for their annual event. The first 2 days has provided some nice weather while still providing a tough challenge with the wind causing some holes to play much longer than normal.
The Mens individual event saw the first 2 rounds played over the New Course with a -3 halfway score from last years winner Mathias Eggenberger and Scottish Golfer of the year Jack McDonald leading the way. The lowest score of the week so far has been 64 on the New Course (with a double bogey on the 12th!!)
As I write this, the players are teeing off on the Old course for 36 holes to decide the Individual title. Our very own Derek Ramsay has been playing this week and scored rounds of 70-79 for a halfway total of 149.
In the Ladies event fantastic scoring of -8 finds Eilidh Briggs and Hannah McCook (both Stirling University) leading the way after 2 rounds on the Old Course.
Whitbread Shield
The annual Whitbread Shield was once again played for at the weekend between Moray and Elgin Golf Clubs. The match was played in good spirits as always, and despite winning at Moray in the low handicap mens match, we were beaten in the Juniors, Ladies and Mens Handicap Division 2 matches away at Elgin.
Low Handicaps Moray 9.5 - 6.5 Elgin GC
High Handicaps Moray 5.5 - 9.5 Elgin GC
Ladies Moray 1.0 - 5.0 Elgin GC
Juniors Moray 1.0 - 3.0 Elgin GC
Overall Moray 17 - 24 Elgin GC
Thats now 3 years in a row for Elgin. Lets hope we can win back the trophy again next year!! Vice Captain John B Thomson presents the trophy to Elgin Captain Laurie Stewart. It certainly looks like Elgin are growing in confidence from this lovely snap!!

Rule of the Week 1st April 2014
After a spell of high winds, Ken and James were playing the New Course. James's tee shot at the 15th finished on the right side of the fairway just to the left of a large fallen branch (thus it is a loose impediment) Part of the branch interferes with his swing, may James break off one of the interfering parts of the branch rather than try to remove the whole branch. Did Ken agree to James's request.
Yes. Ken agreed to James, breaking off the interfering part as the branch was no longer attached to the tree and therefore not growing.
