Greetings from John Murray
Moray Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Hello golfers,

It's been an exciting couple week's golf. Last weekend saw the Walker Cup take part in home turf over Royal Lytham & St Anne's. The Great Britain & Ireland side romped to an impressive 16.5-9.5 win over the Americans. The GB & Ireland side included 3 players who competed in the Scottish Amateur Strokeplay Championship at Moray earlier in the season and this win makes it 2 wins in the last 6 matches. It's great to see the talent of this country doing so well against strong American sides that they always produce!

This weekend will see the women's turn to play for team success in the Solheim Cup played in Germany. It's once again sure to produce some fantastic golfing displays and an electric atmosphere as always. I will certainly be watching closely and cheering on the European team.

Competition news

Closer to home and we are slowly winding down the competitions as we unfortunately get ever closer to the end of the main golfing season! However it's been a busy September with plenty of visiting parties which has helped the club exceed visitor incomes from the last few years.

Fisher League Open

Last weekend saw the ever popular Fisher League Open played over the Old Course with a full field taking to the course. There was a fantastic atmosphere in the clubhouse during the whole day and there was some great efforts in both the On Course and Après Golf events!

In the scratch section, regular visitor, Allan Cameron (Fortrose) won the Red Star Trophy with a great round of 69 in really tough conditions which saw the CSS rise to 75 on the day. Local players, Malcolm Macleman (73) and Kevin Thomson (74) finished in 3rd and 4th places.

In Division 1 handicap section, local member Michael Anderson took the honours with a great score of 74 (68) to lift the Skipper Trophy by 3 shots. James McPherson finished 2nd on 71, with Jim Young (73) and John Martin (74) taking 3rd and 4th spots.

Finally in Division 2, Moray member, John Dawson won the James Brighouse Trophy on a better inward half from Hamish Flett, with Bruce Casburn 3rd one shot behind on 73. Jim Young, Charles D Stewart and James McPherson won the team prize on the day. Well done to everyone who took part and supported the raffles which helped raise over £1000 on the day. Our Junior section have been donated half of the money raised which is fantastic.

A final thanks go to everyone who helped out on the day. There are a lot of people who give up their free time to help make these events a success and this was no exception!

Autumn/Winter and Sale

It's been busy planning ahead and looking at clothing ranges for 2016 and this last week I checked out the new Galvin Green range which once again looked great. Click here to take a look.

We had a busy weekend with our Summer Sale in the shop and we will continue to run a sale section as we start to put out our new Autumn/Winter collections. This week we have put out our new Oscar Jacobson collection. Click here to view the display.

We also have our new waterproof addition with the new ProQuip Pro-Flex outerwear range which includes waterproofs, wind tops and lined sweaters just in time for the cooler Autumn/Winter season ahead. See the article below.

The Un-Metal Wood!

There has been a huge amount of hype surrounding TaylorMade's new Driver. I travelled down to TaylorMade's headquarters in Basingstoke for the official launch of the new M1 series.

The new M1 (multi material) features a new carbon composite crown which helps save weight which gets repositioned into the sole to help lower the centre of gravity, improve launch, spin, ball speed which results in longer straighter shots.....well that's the idea!

Like any club on the market, it will not solve your huge slice! (I'm sorry to say!) but it does allow us to make adjustments to loft, face angle and spin to give you the best club to give you the most from your swing.

Loft adjustment +/- 2 degrees
Available in 430 cc (9.5, 10.5 and 12 degree) and a larger 460 cc head (8.5, 9.5, 10.5 & 12 degree)
3 standard shaft offerings - Fujikura Pro (high launch), Mitsubishi KuraKage (mid launch) and Aldila Rogue Silver (low launch) 29 other shafts available at no extra up charge cost.

The new M1 isn't going to be cheap at an RRP of £429, however we expect it to retail at Moray GC for around £379.

M1The new range will not be available to buy until the 8th of October, however I will have some demos to try from the 23rd September. Look out for our M1 Driver launch coming soon, where you can test out the new product against your own on our GC 2 launch monitor and make up your own mind.

I haven't actually hit it yet but have seen in in the flesh and it does look great at address. I'm certainly looking forward to putting it to the test.
