Greetings from John Murray
Moray Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another exciting edition of the Moray Pro Shop weekly newsletter, bringing you up to date with all the latest news and gossip from within the walls of MGC.

Club news

We had a busy weekend with the Autumn Stableford played on the Old Course on Saturday and the Open Texas Scramble on Sunday.

Mark Ferguson took the honours in the final individual competition of the season with a fantastic 42 points beating the chasing pack of Keith Rushton, Robert Little and Gary Woods all on 39 points.

We had a full field yet again for the Open Texas Scramble on Sunday and the scoring reflected the calm conditions. Noticeable Moray GC placings were Michael Cowie and Gary Youngson who partnered Andrew Sim and Isla Green (Elgin) to 3rd place in section 1. Moray were victorious in section 2 with Sean Adams, Craig Newlands, Mike Trantor and D.C Reid taking the honours with a fine score of 54.7 to win by 3 shots from their nearest rivals....Well Done!!

Tour news

With the European Tour also coming to a close the Race to Dubai hots up with the top 60 players qualifying for the big money end of season DP World Championships in Dubai. It's also crunch time for so many golfers at the bottom end of the rankings with the top 110 players keeping full playing rights for the 2016 season.

I have been closely following Scot Craig Lee over the last few years on tour. Craig was at Moray GC a few years back representing the Scottish Hydro (His Sponsor) during a regional final qualifier a few years back and I managed to have a good chat with him that day. He was a genuinely great guy and took plenty of time to go out of his way to spend time with all the competitors on the course which was great to see.

Craig was sitting in 120th position going into last weekend's event, the Portugal Masters. Craig managed a fantastic final round six under 65, making birdies at his last 2 holes to finish tied 6th and pick up 60,000 euros, which took him to 104th in the rankings and should secure his card for next year. What a great effort under pressure!!

Rule of the week

Billy and David were playing early last Saturday when there was a heavy dew on the course. Picturesque as it was with all the spider webs highlighted on the tops of the whin branches prompted Billy to ask "A spider doesn't fly but is its status a loose impediment?" Was David able to help Billy with his answer?

David replied that the Definition of Loose impediment provides that worms, insects and the like are loose impediments. The term "the like" includes such creatures as spiders. A spider's web is considered to be a cast made by an insect, and is also a loose impediment even if it is attached to another object. Well, Well, Well said Billy.
