Capitalising on his strong overnight lead, American Jacob Bridgeman kept his nerve and claimed his maiden tour title at this year’s Tiger-Woods-hosted Genesis Invitational.

In his first start of the 2026 season, World No.1 Scottie Scheffler continued his historic run of dominance by capturing his 20th career PGA Tour title at the American Express. The event takes place annually at the idyllic Lawrence-Hughes-designed La Quinta country club just outside of Palm Springs California.
Come the end of the Saturday, former champion Si Woo Kim held the lead on 22-under with both Scheffler and amateur Blades Brown tied in second place on 21-under. 18-year-old Brown had been demonstrating exceptional golf having carded an eagle and ten birdies to card a 60 on the Friday.
The final round is always the most pressure-inducing where tour players either fold prove their mettle, and as we’ve seen time and again, Scheffler excels under pressure. The American charged ahead in his back nine and secured a final round of 66 notwithstanding a double bogey on the 17th. Both Blades and Kim fell back with lacklustre final performances of 2 over and level par.
Despite a final day surge of 8-under from Jason Day, Scheffler finished on 27-under-par, four strokes clear of his latest competitor. Having picked up his 20th PGA tour trophy, he remarked that staying patient and calm was a key aspect of his game-winning mindset.
“I did a good job of staying patient and executing when I needed to. It was a really solid day. I always dreamed of being able to play on the PGA Tour and it’s a blessing to be out here and compete. It’s an even bigger blessing to be able to win some tournaments.”
Scottie Scheffler joins the esteemed company of Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus as the only players to have achieved 20 PGA Tour titles and 4 major trophies before the age of 30.
Speaking of major trophies, Scheffler dominated both the PGA Championship and The Open last year, meaning he has just to achieve a U.S. Open victory to win a career grand slam. Do you think Scheffler will emerge victorious at Shinnecock Hills this June?
We’ve got plenty of tournaments that’ll be taking place at the club this year, and if you want to get your game in shape to give them your best shot, we’re available to organise a lesson programme with you in the pro shop.
